New matress advice!

Hi All,

We're in the market for a mattress and need some good advice! Where to shop, what to look for, likes/dislikes, etc...

Anyone love their mattress and want to tell me about it?  Big Smile

Thank you!

~M.

Re: New matress advice!

  • We shopped around and for traditional mattresses really liked the Sealy line- we thought Raymour and Flanigan had a good selection and pricing. After a ton of research we ended up with a Select Comfort (sleep number) bed and absolutely love it. It was a lot of money, but lasts twice as long as a traditional mattress, plus we got a discontinued model so that helped.

Just take a bunch of time to try as many as you can, that's the only way to tell. We felt like idiots laying around in the store, but oh well!

  • Excellent advice, Thank you!  I am tempted to try out the sleep number because I like them super soft and DH would rather sleep on a board! Big Smile
  • not sure where in upstate you are..I'm in albany- we bought a new matress this past summer...we bought a latex serta memory foam thing and its fabulous...we went to several different places- laid on the matresses..and the best thing we did was splurge on a king size...we were in a full ...

we also comparison shopped and were able to get 12months intr free financing because another store offered it (but we wanted to buy at this one place)...and I know most places will also give you a small discount (but a discount) if you pay cash...

    good luck

  • Well.. We got our mattress 4 years ago.. it was a Sealy.. and it is shot after 4 years...I'm not sure why..  BUT... We actually just went today and picked a new one that we are getting free because ours was under warranty.  We're getting another sealy. I don't know the model number or anything.. But the service at Raymour and Flanigan has been really good. I was very impressed today.

  • We got a new mattress for Christmas this year.  The hardest thing is comparison shopping since each store uses a different set of names for what really are the same products, which makes it nearly impossible to compare prices.  We used our cell phones to take pictures of the little tag with the descriptions and that store's name of the mattress to send to each other.  Then we could see that what Store A called the Stearns and Foster 'Savannah" was the same as Store B's Stearns and Foster "Skyline."  That way we could see which store had the best price.  Before that though we took and afternoon and went to the place with the biggest selection and just spent time laying on them to decide on make and model we liked.  Then another afternoon with the price comparison.  We went to a Sleepy's, I don't know if they have them up there, but we wanted to buy from them since they had a 30 day return/exchange policy.  Sears had a better price, and Sleepys matched it.  So, be sure to ask for the matching deals like abba said.

  • Thank You All for the great advice! I had no idea there was so much 'inside knowledge' so I am so glad I asked. We are in Jamestown, really close to the PA line, southwestern NY. Our families are in the Buffalo area, so we might do some shopping up there as well.
