be honest with me. Is Kenmore sketchy?

The people at my current store have me all woried about being transfered to the Kenmore store.  They are saying it's a bad area and I am close to the city, that I need to have mace with me .  Which would you consider worse Kenmore or Lockport.  I was really worried about lockport and I was fine up there.  Sure we had a mixed clientel but I survived.

Re: be honest with me. Is Kenmore sketchy?

  • The store you will be at is RIGHT on the border of Kenmore and Buffalo (Kenmore Ave is the border line), so you will probably get some weirdos. I live like 2 miles from it (in the city) and used to work in the plaza that is right down the street (Citizens bank inside Tops) I do not think you'll need mace! Obviously be safe, and if you are at the store late walk out w/ someone.  It's North Buffalo, not the East side! LOL
  • LOL!  I came into this post because I thought you meant appliances.  Too funny.

I used to live on the border of Kenmore and Buffalo!  This post brought me back.  I never thought it was sketchy, but that was 10 years ago!

  • Kenmore itself is not sketchy at all. My friend used to live there and her neighborhood looked just like mine basically.  The only thing was.. people seemed to drive like a-holes. But like PP said you are right on the border of the city... but I'm not terribly familiar with the neighborhoods that are right near there..

I personally think Lockport is creepy..but I don't think its necessarily a terrible area..

  • You'll be fine!  Just be smart and you won't have any problems- don't walk outside late at night alone, lock your car, don't leave valuables, etc.  I feel like that's with any area though!  I work on the East side and have never had a problem because I use common sense when I'm coming to/leaving work.
  • hehe, I thought appliances too!  You know how shady Sears is.  ;)

Kenmore is not sketchy at all!  I bought my first house there and loved it!  That said, you may get a few weirdos but I wouldn't be afraid to work there.

ETA- make sure you don't speed driving to work- Kenmore cops are notorious for busting anyone going even a mile or two over the speed limit.

  • I grew up in Kenmore and my Mom still lives there-in fact, she's one block in from Kenmore so she's right on the border there as well (you must work right near her somewhere b/c shes very near delaware/kenmore area)...anyways, I don't think it's as nice as it used to be, but definitely not very sketchy. Like PP said, its north buffalo-you might get some oddballs, but I wouldnt think of carrying mace with me!

Yes! Be careful! DH just got a ticket driving down Delaware Ave (right near the intersection of Kenmore Ave) for going 46 in a 40! Ken/Ton cops are the worst!

  • The area is filled with businesses... Starbucks and ColdStone are right across the street. I actually really like the location of the store because it is fairly newly developed which in my opinion means that developers have researched the area and considered the population, safety etc. IMO Starbucks and Coldstone are higher end strip mall businesses and wouldn't go into a sketchy area.

It is fairly congested due to the businesses, narrow streets etc. Kenmore itself, does a great job with plowing. It is a small community, only a few square miles, and has a little cute downtown. The residents pay high taxes for amenities like plowing and taxes. Just like any community there are streets that are more desirable than others.

You will be safe if you use common sense like pp's stated.

  • I'm repeating what a few PPs said, but I wanted to emphasize DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR CAR!

I live in downtown Buffalo and I love it, but car break-ins are rampant. My husband does crime analysis for Erie County so he knows all the stats. Kenmore and Hertle are corridors for car break-ins, so I would just be careful about that. These guys don't hesitate to break a window in broad daylight if you have a suction cup on your windshield that looks like it might hold a GPS. Other than that you're fine in that neighborhood. There's almost no violent crime.
