The coach of the US Women's Hockey team, Mark Johnson, is my cousin. Not a first cousin by any means, but for as huge as my mom's side of the family is, we all know each other decently. Mark was also a captain/player on the 1980 "Miracle on Ice" US Men's Hockey team that beat the Russians (which was a much bigger deal in 1980 of course). Anyway, the women's team is poised to do very very well this year and may even get *gasp* more coverage than the men's team.

If you get a chance to catch a game, give them a little cheer! If they win the gold then Mark also gets a medal as their coach. And that's just cool.

OMG. You're related to Mark Johnson? That's so cool. I will never forget those 1980 Olympics. I was already a huge hockey fan, and all I could think about all day every day during that tournament was how much I couldn't wait for the next game. I sat cross-legged on the floor in front of our TV beating my fists on the floor. I was nine. I remember teaching my dad the rules of the game as we watched together. I was too young to understand the political import of the upset, but wow, the joy of those moments is something I'll always remember. If you think about it next time you talk with him, then tell him thanks from me.
