Anyone have knee surgery?
I dislocated my knee over a week ago, and it's now crunching horrifically when going up or down stairs...all my research points to torn meniscus and/or floating cartilage...which makes me think knee surgery is not far off for me..I'm going to try and hold off until the summer to have it done..anyone had surgery for this...or did physical therapy help?
I'm totally being a baby about this, and having my own little freakouts every day and then talking myself down. So grown up, I know.
Re: Anyone have knee surgery?
both of my ILs had it...
and both were up and around and mostly capable in short time :-)
I had ACL reconstruction surgery in Feb 2004. My situation was a little different - I was on scholarship for basketball. So I had the surgery right away and had months of PT to make sure my knee was ready for the beginning of the next season.
Anyway, it's been 6 years now and my knee doesn't give me any problems. The incision site (where they took my patella tendon to replace my ACL) is a little numb to the touch, but I think that's fairly common (my c-section scar/incsicion is like that as well).
Get your knee checked out. You'll most likely go through some x-rays and possibly an MRI, but it'll be worth it to find out what's wrong and how to fix it. Don't mess around with your knee. Srsly. Call the doc.
Yeah, let the doctor tell you what *they* think is best. I am freaking out over my ECHO and am terrified that they will tell me a pregnancy will kill me, or my heart is as clogged as Bill Clinton's, but it has to be done.
My appointment is on the 23rd. We can swap results
I agree with Min. Have you seen a doctor? I have dislocated my knee before. Have you ever seen a kneecap on the side of your leg before. It's not cool. Well you obviously have.
I couldn't walk at all so you're doing good walking, I suppose. Or making it worse?
PT hurts like a *****, but is a better route than just seeing what happens.
So after that rambling, my suggestion is to go see your doctor and get an MRI. HTH!
Thanks everyone, it helps to hear others have gone through this! I just made an appointment for the 26th, with xrays on the 25th. It was the soonest they could get me in, but they're the best in town, so I'll take it.
Yeah, seeing the knee cap on the side of the leg sucks ass big time. I'm able to walk pretty well, but it just pops going up stairs, and crunches coming back down. It doesn't help that when I came down the stairs and Ed heard it he got all crazy faced and said "that's not right." Thanks honey, that makes me feel SO good to hear you say that.
DollFace - Yes! After one doc told me I had been having palpitations, I went home and had palpitations all night because of the anxiety. My heart hurt the next day, or at least it felt like it. I didn't even know what my heart was doing...I thought it was because of the murmur.
I'm having the ECHO and some bloodwork. I can tell you all about my iron levels next week
Actually, I don't know when I'll get the results? But I'll tell you when I do.
