Can someone summarize moving-the-debate-gate for me?
When I left a couple hours ago, McCain had just proposed suspending the campaign and moving the debate. Now Obama is claiming to have suggested it first? Are the campaigns suspended? Is there a resolution on Friday's debate?
I don't feel like wading through 90 posts on this. Thanks!
Re: Can someone summarize moving-the-debate-gate for me?
I think Obama privately proposed putting out a joint statement, McCain publicly proposed suspending the campaign and delaying all debates. Obama said "debate is on!" McCain said "no debate unless there is a deal."
I think that's the run-down?
Two words: some BULLshyt
Interesting.
What a mess.
I haven't seen anything suggesting Obama suggested moving the debate. He suggested a joint statement, and then McCain announced he was suspending his campaign and wanted to delay the debate, and challenged Obama to do the same. Obama then came on and said game on.
I think McCain's campaign is suspended after he does something with Bill Clinton's initiative tonight. He also wanted to suspend campaign ads and wanted Obama to do the same, but I have no idea where that stands.
The debate people say they're going ahead as planned, and at least one candidate will be there.
Personally, I don't think this has gone the way McCain planned and I expect him to dial it back a bit.
Agreed Brookles.
I thought McCain's strategy seemed like a good one, until he suggested moving back Palin's debate. Then it just became pretty clear why he was suggesting this plan.
this whole thing is madness. so lemme get this straight: the campaigns want to inject the insanity of a hotly-contested presidential contest into one of the most critical decisions congress has made in years? fantastic idea. is this my eyeroll smiley?
here's two

Getting rid of the VP debate is ridiculous and transparent.?
I have no issues whatsoever with delaying the Pres debate to another day though. With 40 left there are plenty of other dates that will work.?
I forgot the debate topic was foreign policy. *puts tinfoil hat on* Now I'm wondering if McCain knew Obama would refuse so he'd end up having to debate anyway. McCain is much stronger on national security so by proposing a postponement, acting like he has tons of work to do on the bailout, but then still being prepared he will look even better than if everyone knew they were both studying for it and there was no commotion over the timeframe.
I ditto both of these---plenty of other days for people to see the candidates and make a decision.
