Crafty/Creative Girls...

Here's my first new house help request!

Imagine this rubbermaid drawer set with three drawers and without all the other clutter around it.

I have been storing all my bras, underwear, fun newly wed "outfits", stockings, slips, etc... in one of these.  It was in my closet in the old house and I think I've finally come to the conclusion that it's going to go on top of our dresser in the new house.

Any ideas of how to paint/cover it?  It's plastic and mostly clear and I don't want my unmentionables on display.  I'll be looking for something inexpensive to store them in, but I think trying to disguise this one is the best option for now.

Re: Crafty/Creative Girls...

  • mod podge is always fun.

You could either cover it with clipped photos or use some pretty scrapbooking paper.

    Here's a how-to http://www.wikihow.com/Decoupage

  • I don't know what look you're going for... but i'm imagining fun with puffy paint.
  • I second decoupage with pretty papers (mojo has a huge selection).  If you're willing to paint it, you could give it a wood grain with the proper painting comb.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • Hmmmm.... glue patterned wallpaper on the sides and then do a mirrored/colored glass mosaic on the front?
  • If you decide to paint it I would use a spray paint that is specifically meant for use on plastic- it will actually bond to the plastic.  If you just use any old type of paint then it won't stick to the plastic- it will flake or scratch off.  I would think once you spray paint the drawers with it then they would become opaque and you'd no longer be able to see through them.  If you're trying to disguise it, then I would probably choose a similar color spray paint as the dresser so it blends in.
  • Good thoughts!  I won't have time to do anything to it until next week or the week after, but for some reason (probably because I'm working today and I'm usually off and I'm feeling extra antsy in my cube) I couldn't stop pondering what I could do with it.  Smile

  • Right now our walls and bedding are cream and we have a few accents in warm, sunset colors.  I just found these on sale at Paper Source...

     european papers  european papers

... and I'm starting to get very excited.  That much color might be too much where I think it's going to end up but I hope it will work!

Any idea where to get glass?  Michael's?  I'm picturing tiles... is that what you were thinking?

Ya like glass like cubed tiles?  I'm sure Michael's or Hobby Lobby (not sure if you have one) has tiles.  I was thinking blue and green....but I would do Red, yellow, or orange/peach to match your colors?
