Does anyone...

...celebrate Fat Tuesday? I personally do not but am curious as to any traditions/celebrations out there! I'll be at church tomorrow for Ash Wednesday and give up meat...my family sometimes does a party to celebrate, but not always!

Re: Does anyone...

  • Just to clarify...my family sometimes has a party to celebrate Fat Tuesday not Ash Wednesday...haha. It didn't sound right in my post!!
  • I don't really know anything about this stuff. Im not catholic. Umm, do other religions do it too? School me girls! lol
  • We celebrate lent and giving up meat on Ash Wednesday and Fridays but we do not celebrate Fat Tuesday

Fat Tuesday is the day before Lent Begins (Ash Wednesday). It is a celebration filled with all the "fatty"/rich foods and things you are not suppose to really consume during Lent! At least, that is my understanding...correct me if I'm wrong!! :)
  • DH and I observe them! We give up something for Lent, etc.etc. We are having trouble with what to give up for Lent but I am sure we will come up with something. We never did a party growing up but we had pancake suppers at church- I guess that's where the fattening/sweet part comes in!

  • We don't celebrate it and we never really did as kids. I'm hoping to be able to make it to Mass tomorrow, but I'm not sure if I'll actually make it to the service because of work :( I'd normally either come in late or leave early but with all the snow last week I'm a little behind :(

Definitely no meat tomorrow or on Friday until Easter....not sure what I'm giving up for Lent this year though....I'm having a hard time coming up with something good but something that isn't too hard that I completely give up ya know

  • I don't anymore! I use to when I was in College!
  • When I lived in Michigan we always had pazcki's.  I haven't had one of those in years. My aunt would drive to this certain bakery an hour or so away just to buy them.

haha Bethie, you're so funny!! The last few years I've tried to add a positive to my life during Lent instead if taking something away...or sometimes both!
  • I. live. in. New Orleans.

    So yeah. haha.

We have Mardi Gras, then it's no meat on Ash Wednesday and Friday's until Easter. Though when you leave on the Gulf of Mexico and have an abundance of fresh seafood to choose from, I think we cheat when we eat fish and shellfish, it's soooo goooddd. haha.

Though this year, we didn't do anything for Mardi Gras, I didn't get to go to one damn parade this year thanks to the cold from hell I got while celebrating the Super Bowl victory.
