Janelle post reminded me of Lent and I started thinking about whether or not I'm going to give anything up this year. I was raised Catholic, but I'm not anymore (I'm not anything anymore). However, I still like the practice in theory and I usually try to give up something. In college, I gave up bacon a few times (I know, SHOCKING).
So:
1. Are you giving up anything for Lent?
2. If so, what?
3. In college, someone told me that Friday's didn't count and you could indulge in whatever you gave up on that day. I found some information from the Catholic church that backed it up, but nothing definitive. Do you follow this?
ETA: Ugh, duh . . . Totally missed that LORELAI already brought this up in TPT. I'm an idiot, I should've noticed it when 3 other people mentioned Lent. So really, only my follow up question is valid.
Today is not my day!
Re: Lent?
1. Are you giving up anything for Lent? Nope, never have never will. It is huge here but I don't participate in anything but not eating meat on Fridays lol. But that is only because it is a great excuse to eat seafood.
2. If so, what? see above

1. see my TPT post
2. see my TPT post
3. *This is what I was taught* I am Catholic - went to Catholic school through high school (my mom and aunt are both Catholic school principals too). NO, friday is not a FREE day. In fact, you have to also NOT eat meat on Friday in addition to your normal "given up stuff".
The only FREE day is Easter Sunday. The day Christ rises from the dead. The things given up are a way to recognize and symbolize the 40days Jesus spent praying before he was executed.
Just what i was taught...
TTC #1 13 cycles, CP 6/09, TTC #2 1 cycle
CDing, EP'd for 13 months for #1, BFing for #2
Pregnancy Hypertension - inductions at 39w, I grow big babies: DD was 9 pounds 1 ounce 22 inches, DS was 11 pounds even 22 inches - both vaginal deliveries
1. Are you giving up anything for Lent?: It's between chocolate/soda/ice cream.
2. If so, what? see above

I found some information from the Catholic church that backed it up, but nothing definitive. Do you follow this? I'm not Catholic, but my hubs is, and he's never mentioned this--I think it's the whole shebang or not at all. But I'm no expert.
1. Are you giving up anything for Lent? going to try to, but even eating healthy is something... OR I would like to give a certain amt-say $5/wk-towards supermarket GC's and take them to the church for the homeless that stop by (have wanted to do that, then got to the line at the market with a $$$$ bill-and put back the gc-bad Lori.
2. If so, what?Sis has done well w giving up sweets. not sure-see above.
3. In college, someone told me that Friday's didn't count and you could indulge in whatever you gave up on that day. I found some information from the Catholic church that backed it up, but nothing definitive. Do you follow this? Not Catholic, but I try to give something up. I also try to not do it on a Friday-thought the Friday thing was just for kids-like if they gave up tv or ...
And I still try to not eat red meat on Fridays.
1. Are you giving up anything for Lent? never have, never will. I was raised Catholic, but decided around age 12 that it wasn't for me. I haven't practiced since, nor do I practice any other religion.
2. If so, what? n/a

1. Are you giving up anything for Lent?
I haven't observed lent in years . . . but since I wanted to start dieting I may just to make my mom happy.
2. If so, what?
Pepsi. Definitely Pepsi.

I've never heard of that, and my family is very observant. I love love loved lent growing up because my mom or Nana always made homemade mac and cheese on Fridays . . . mmmmmmm.
