Plantation Tours?

Hi ladies! I am from Houston....my grandmother is driving in from Dallas and suggested we drive to Louisiana to tour some of the beautiful plantations. Can you suggest area that has several plantations?

Re: Plantation Tours?

  • If you look up Oak Alley, there are a bunch near it that do tours.  Nottoway is also beautiful.

  • st. francisville, donaldsonville, white castle are a few..... pretty much anything on old river road.
  • My favorite plantation is Houma's House in Sorrento.  The grounds are gorgeous and John Folse has a restaurant on site that serves lunch.

  • I agree with Shoe...delicious.  I love to have Sunday brunch there.  If it is the whole interesting haunted plantation thing you are shooting for I would say go to St. Francisville.  It is a beautiful place to spend some time and get some great pictures.
  • Old River Road probably has the most. You can see Oak Alley and Laura (which is an old creole plantation), also near there is Greenwood Plantation (they filmed the opening to The Skeleton Key there and they have original slave cabins as well). Nottoway is also gorgeous like the girls said.

The Myrtles in St. Francisville is haunted (my mother in law stayed there after Katrina and has some crazy stories) so that's pretty cool too.

Houma House is gorgeous too, even if you go there just for the grounds.

Destrehan Plantation near New Orleans is great, they have a hole in the door from an original civil war bullet and the staircase in Gone with the Wind was modeled after the main staircase in the house.

MH and I spend a lot of time at the plantations if you can't tell :) Enjoy your trip!
