Pissed off a local business...

back story:  I wanted an Ikea crib to save money - DH didn't like it.

We went to a local boutique baby store on Friday night and found and ordered a beautiful simple italian made crib for a total of $460.

Today I googled the crib to find a pic to send to my mom and found the EXACT.SAME.CRIB. for $270 total including tax and free shipping promo.

Yeah...that's a $190 difference for an umemployed gal.  I'll take the deal.  I try to support local businesses, but when they are so blatently marking up the price like that it pisses me off.  I called the boutique to cancel the order and the owner lectured me that it is not right for me to "use" their store to see the merchandice in person and then order online somewhere else.

I'm sorry...maybe I'll cancel my car seat and stroller order too.  What a douche.  I understand you are mad you lost a sale for such a blatent over-pricing - but don't lecture me about being a shopper.  I'm a smart informed shopper - you're a boutique owner marking stuff way way up.

  • Um wow.  "Using" a store to see merchandise?  WTF ever dude, get over yourself and your overpriced merchandise. I guarantee you they get them from the same or at least similar distributor.
  • Wow.  Takes balls to say that when the price difference is $190.

What crib is it?  I have been looking online and I think my eyeballs are going to fall out!

Yeah and I would have let $50 slide...but not $190. Crazy!

  • I would have said that its not a good time to price gauge customers! I am glad that you were able to cancel the order though! Yay for a good deal!
  • That's BS! I would cancel the rest of my orders, too.

This. I'd call her back and say that due to the rude way you were treated, you will be giving all of your business elsewhere. This is insanely rude!

  • That's such BS!  I'd probably cancel my other orders too because I'd be afraid they were price-gouging on those too.  What a load of crap.  Good for you for price shopping and getting a much better deal!

  • I found my wedding dress at a shop for $600.

Found it online for $350. Um, yeah I got the online deal! They weren't doing alterations there, anyway...

  • That's crazy.  Ya think he would at least offer to price match.  What a jerk!
  • This was extremely rude. Cancel all your orders, and I would even write them a ltter about how insulted you are. Let them know you will never be giving them business again, and you will also be letting any one looking for baby things NOT to shop there.
