So sorry to hear about your dog . . . . do you have her on any meds? Don't give up hope yet. There are NSAIDs for dogs that work wonders. Talk to your vet about medical management options. Good luck!
Re: **Lorelai***
Thanks...
She's 14... I think she may have had a stroke-not that we're vets or anything medical. She's stopped eating (which is def not her style-she'd lick a plate in her sleep if she was offered one!), she won't move, she has been growling at us if/when we move her. Her back legs just started to let go like she didn't have traction and now, days later, they just collapse. And she's a fit Basset, too, FWIW.
At this age, and please don't think we're cruel or taking the easy route, Dh does not want to get into the $ end of it. I hope we talk with someone first when we go in this eve, but neither of us could get her to move this morning. I tried a towel under her to no avail. We've known people who have spent $10k and their pets stayed around for 6 mos. longer. If we know she is in pain, that is not what we want for her. She's 1/2 blind, too.
I truly appreciate the kind thoughts!
At 14 and with the symptoms your describing, it sounds like a fair choice to me. I always tell my clients that the most loving choices come out of choosing quality of life for our pets, not quantity. If she isn't happy and able to enjoy the simple things . . . well, its time.
Good luck tonight . . . I'll be thinking about you.
Thank you!
butting in....
Lori, I just wanted you to know tht your dog is in my thoughts and prayers. I alos think you are making a smart and caring decision. If you remember when my dog passed last year, I had sspent over 8k to try and help, and we ended up putting her down in the end. Please keep us posted. (((HUHGS)))
