sooo...about me leaving work early...

I saw my doctor today. He asked me when I was finishing work and I told him the end of this month. And he stared at me. Hard. So I said, "Oh...well....I mean, I thought that would be soon enough....." and he said, "LISA. You are the same size as a full-term pregnancy. You just told me that you can barely get in and out of the car by yourself. Do you know how much harder this will be even a week from now? Frankly, I'd like it if you finished today. I'll give you this week, but you need to stop working after this Friday. NOT two weeks from now. OK?"

Sooo...yeah. Turns out this is my last week at work. At first I was a bit upset at the idea of having to take an extra week off work since I don't have enough sick/vacation days saved up to cover it, but then I realized - duh, I can just move my maternity leave up a week. Obviously it would be nice to only use the mat leave when I have a good chance of the twins actually being born, but on the other hand, I'm getting 28 weeks off. I can certainly afford to use a week or two of it in pre-baby time. And I feel like an idiot for not thinking of it sooner!

I feel sooooooo incredibly relieved right now. I didn't realize just how utterly miserable the idea of going to work every day was - even though I love my job and even though my boss has been incredibly supportive and fantastic with giving me the easiest possible tasks every day, just the sheer effort of getting up and making it through the day was killing me. Not that I need to tell you guys that after my little breakdown a couple days ago, but I really feel insanely, amazingly relieved right now!

Only 4 more days of work to go! WOOHOO!

Re: sooo...about me leaving work early...

  • Yay!!!! I'm so glad to hear this. Although I have it easy since I only have one in the oven, I'm telling you- life for me has been so much better since I have got written out of work! The physical part was hard for me and started getting to me mentally. I don't know how pregnant women do it so far along, even the ones w/desk jobs! I hope this time off helps you a lot too. Take it easy with your time off. Don't be doing to much and wearing yourself out!
  • LOL I promise I'll take it easy. Wink

As you said, the physical side of things was just getting to me mentally - and I knew it was, but I really didn't realize just how MUCH it was affecting me until I agreed to stop working at the end of this week. I feel a thousand pounds lighter, a million times happier...I'm like a new woman, and I'm not kidding! It must have been worse than I even thought if simply taking one extra week (just 5 working days!) off has made me this relieved.

  • That's wonderful news Lisa...yay for being sensible...your babies & your body will benefit greatly!
  • Oh that's great! What a relief for you and the babies.  Enjoy your LAST week of work, woohoo! :)

  • Hooray!  That's great news.  One of my good friends recently had a baby and I remember how difficult it was for her at the end.  I can't even imagine how tough things are for you, with twins and with the summer heat.  Here's hoping you're able to rest and relax during pre-baby time.
  • that is GREAT news!  Hope this makes it easier to get through this week!
  • that will really help I bet.

As much as I hate sitting around not working the fact that my blood pressure has went down and stayed down and my other minor pre-e symptoms have stabilized really have me convinced that my body needed the rest.  I can only imagine how much you could use it too  :)

You know, it's funny you should mention this...I've had borderline blood pressure this entire pregnancy, and after I was ordered to quit work, it actually went down to a normal level for the first time ever. Could have just been coincidence (especially since I'm still working for 2 more days), but I really did wonder if it had something to do with me just utterly mentally relaxing for the first time in ages!
