Re: Question For CDing Mamas
We've just gone with the basics...indian cotton prefolds (unbleached cotton) and Thirsties covers (I love the newer Duos and highly recommend them). We also got a couple of Snappis, which we prefer to use to keep everything tight, especially with EBF poop! With an older baby, like Wai, you might not need the Snappi.
We have 3 dozen prefolds and intend to wash every other day but right now it's closer to every day since Libby is going through about 20-24 dipes/day. We also have cloth wipes...I got organic bamboo ones from Etsy seller Wooldins. They're awesome! I put them in water and keep them in a Lionsheart Wipes Warmer.
I've gotten most of my stuff from www.momsmilkboutique.com ...they have specials and discounts all the time.
I also recommend www.cottonbabies.com and www.greenmountaindiapers.com
I haven't bought anything from here, but I refer to their info. all the time:
www.pinstripesandpolkadots.com
and I know some Bumpies swear by www.JilliansDrawers.com
Hope that helps...I am sure the other CD mamas will chime in.

Here's what I've bought so far. Can't tell you if it's enough or not, since baby's not here yet. But I have been happy with my purchases so far!
In all, I have 24 prefolds, 3 Thirsties covers each for each size, about 9 all-in-ones for each size, and 4 snappis. I figured this would give me a good shot at experimenting with CDing and I can add from there, if needed.
I check diaperpin.com regularly because their homepage has coupon and sale info for online CD stores. I also looked here for product reviews when I made my purchases.
I bought a bunch of stuff from diaperdaisy.com and was really happy with the price, service and quality. Most of what I bought was new, but I did get a few second hand covers and they are great quality and saved a lot of $. At the time, the sale and gently used items were all an additional 25% off. I got a set of 6 bumGenius', some Thirsties AIOs, SposoEasy AIOs, Thirsties covers, and a dozen infant prefolds, That cost me about $190 (free ship).
I also placed an order with momsmilkboutique.com. I bought the starter pack -- 12 Indian unbleached prefolds, 2 Thirsties covers, a snappi, and Charlie's soap, plus a pack of 4 additional snappies, for $71 (free ship). I thought these prefolds were thicker than diaperdaisy's.
So, for $260, we were able to get a good supply of CDs, including a bunch of AIOs, which we splurged on just to experiment with the convenience factor. I'm really looking forward to trying them all out.
We currently have 32 prefolds. We buy them from greenmountiandiapers.com and that's the only place we've ever bought them. They are SUPER absorbent. When she was younger we had 24 prefolds and I wish we would've had more. That was enough for washing every day and a half. She went through SO many when she was younger! Now we wash every 2-3 days.
We have thirsties sized covers, currently she's in the mediums and she has plenty of room to grow. She still fits in the smalls but I feel like it's pushing it
We've mostly bought them from abbyslane.com because they have free shipping and a decent price. We just bought the mediums from nickisdiapers.com and they had a good price, free shipping and they were QUICK! We've used bummis super brites but they don't seem to fit her as well as the thirsties covers. The bummies are short waisted and Bella is a TALL girl! So thirsties are it for us!
We wash using purex free and clear about 1/4 of the amt you would use for a normal load and it's working fine for us. No rashes, no issues with repelling.
For a "dirty" diaper bin, we use a trash can from Target with no liner, we dump the whole thing in the wash and then wash it out each time. No issues with stink or anything as long as you keep the lid closed.
You'll need a wet bag for your diaper bag. We have a medium size from etsy seller monkeyfootdesigns and I love it! It's enough to hold 5-7 diapers and wipes and a cover. That's decent size if you ask me! It cost about $19.
For wipes, I use circo brand (target) wash cloths and just regular water. We have a little tub of water in the top drawer of her changing table and we change the water each day.
Let me know if you have any other questions! We LOVE CDing!
Oh yeah, we have a regular white plastic trash bin with a flip top lid that we got for $5....we're using liners by WAHMIES. It has a little cotton tag on the inside to add essential oils for stink control and we've been using grapefruit and it smells great. Even without it we have no stink issues. When it's time to do the laundry, we take out the liner bag and dump all of the diapers and wipes and bag into the washer.
For the Thirsties covers we got 3 XS, 3 S, 1 size one Duo and then 3 size 2 Duos. For Wai you could probably get away with 3-4 Size 2 Duos (they go 18-30 lbs). I did use one Bummis Whisper Wrap but it doesn't have the leg gussets that the Thirsties have, which is essential to avoiding blowouts and leaks.
We have a front load hE Machine...we use 7th Generation Delicate Wash liquid soap (two tablespoons per load)...we do a cold water rinse first then a hot wash cycle with extra spin and rinse then into the dryer. Easy peasy. We fold the diapers up and store them in the nursery in a cute fabric covered storage bin.
We got two dry bags for the diaper bag too...Kushies brand from Amazon.com.

I am using the Indian Cotton Prefolds (unbleached) from CottonBabies and they just keep getting softer and softer with each wash. Our plan is to use them for the next baby...I mean, there might be a few that don't make it that far (frayed edge, etc.) but I cannot imagine they'd be so worn out they won't work for the next baby. It probably depends upon how often you're washing them, the type of detergents you use, your washer/dryer and also if your water is hard or not.
Our intention was to wash every-other-day but right now Libby is going through 20-24 diapers a day (10 last night! She was a pee pee factory!)...so we do a load each night to have them ready for the next day and that may wear them out a bit faster. These are the infant size and only go up to 15 lbs or so...she's nearly 10 lbs already, so it won't be long before she's into the Premium sized ones we got. We'll use the smaller ones as doublers, etc.
So...I wouldn't worry at all about the diapers wearing out before your baby is done using them...perhaps for the second baby, but certainly not for the first baby. For about $250 we got our whole stash together...so even for ONE baby that's a significant savings over using sposies for 3 years!

We used the orange edge prefolds for Bella until she outgrew them and plan to use them for the next baby. They are perfect, no staining or "wearing out". We are just about to outgrow the yellow edge prefolds and they are still perfect too. We'll also be able to use these for the next baby.
Hey just came across this retail site today...they have new Thirsties wraps for $11...that's the cheapest I've seen for new ones:

Nicki's is where I just ordered Bella's mediums from, they have super quick shipping!
so i love the thirsties duo diaper covers... for prefolds we used ones from green mountain diapers. shipping is $$$ but shipping prefolds is super expensive. i bought mine used from diaperswappers and have been really happy w/them.
for AIOs i love the BG organics and sposoeasy... the sposoeasy you can get direct from the manufacturer (blue penguin) and if you buy 5+ you get a discount and then code NGP will get you another 10% off.
make sure you check here for the latest deals. the duo diaper covers were less than $11 at my baby pumpkin recently but i think the sale ended already ....
