I can't imagine NOT working for the weekend...

I really hope one day I can have my own business b/c I really am tired of working for the weekends. :-(  I don't hate my job, it just sucks to be at work basically longer than you are at your own house during the week.  I am sorry to sound whiney, I just really wish it was Friday. :-)

When you have your own business, you work to survive and you work a lot harder and a lot longer and most often THROUGH the weekends. Being a business owner is very seldom better hours nor gives you more time away from work. Quite the opposite. Depends on the type of business of course, but I wanted to throw that out there. I've done both.

  • Hmm, well, i know where I work, the two owners are always the people that work the longest and hardest at what they do.  Not that their employees are slackers--but the owners feel that they should do the most demanding things--they MAKE us go home and enjoy our free time.  It sets a good example for their employees because we know that they wouldnt' ask us to do anything they wouldn't or already haven't done before.  At a previous job, it was clear the owner of the place was a "do as I say, not as I do" type of owner and every employee in the company hated him and their jobs and morale was always low.

I'm sorry you feel the way you do about your job, though.  That must stink!!  I think the ideal situation would to become "independently wealthy."  I look forward to that day...should it ever come my way!!

  • Blech, sorry... working the weekends suck.

While I do agree with the pp's that owning your own business entails much more work, more hours, and more strain on your personal life, I also know exactly where you're coming from when you say that you'd prefer to open your own business. My husband and I are of the same mindset. We want to open our own company, work our butts off for a few years, hire some people we can trust and then allow them to manage what we've established.

I think when you own your own company the stress level is higher, but the fact that you are able to reap the benefits and the higher income (depending on productivity) is a definite plus.

  • Yes, that is what I meant to say.  I know that working for myself would be CRAZY, but the point is it would be mine.  I don't mind working hard or long, I just hate doing it for someone else. :-)
