as a spring coat that looks age-appropriate? The only spring jackets I can find are cut for women more in their 50s-60s (the style my Grandmother always wore, and now my mom too.)
All the lighter coats I can find that seem remotely more fashionable are typically juniors coats that are then TOO young-looking.
Re: Is there such a thing...
I have a black trench coat without a belt on it. Is that what you're talking about that looks like they are for someone in their 50s-60s? LOL!
Target has some pretty cute ones

I can only find ones with belts or that are cut horribly! I would consider the trench style, but I can't find any!
ETA: I can only find wool ones locally, which I just think looks a little too wintry.
Those ones Mel posted are cute! I got mine at Old Navy years ago. This one is super cute: http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=6951&vid=1&pid=498924
Or you could always get something like this: http://www.landsend.com/pp/OriginalCanvasJacket~200308_59.html?bcc=y&action=order_more&sku_0=::FKH&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000562&origin=index
Yeah I don't know about the pocket on the back...
I actually really like the Lands End one!
This is what I've been drooling over for a couple of months:
