Is Obama going to debate himself tomorrow?

Re: Is Obama going to debate himself tomorrow?

  • Is McCain still saying he won't show up if there is a debate? If that's the case, and what jla is saying about an agreement already reached, that would look really bad, IMO.

  • At this point, I think it looks bad for McCain either way.

If he changes his mind and shows up, he'll look like a fool for changing his mind twice in 48 hours, especially since he's been so adamant about how he's not going to be there.

If he doesn't show up, it will give Obama a 2-hour window to showcase his platform on the major networks (assuming they still air it), and there will be a lot of talk about what McCain was doing during those 2 hours. He'd better come up with something good.

Latest McCain camp line, in response to question of whether debate will go on Friday with an empty podium: Obama can always debate Joe Biden

HA! that is a debate I would enjoy! "Now, what are your feelings on clean coal production?"

"who do you think would have been the better VP candidate: Biden or Hillary?"

Disagree. I think it makes Obama look bad, like a child. What is the issue with postponing a couple days? Heaven forbid Obama be asked to focus on the job he actually has right now

  • Maybe Palin could take McCain's place at the debate!  Start practicing for the VP job right away by subbing in for the president when he can't perform!!

I could agree with that if they were still frantically trying to come up with a bill to vote on. At this point, I don't know if that's the case. If there's already an agreement reached or a draft proposal (or whatever the appropriate name for it is), and they're just waiting for a vote like jla posted below, it would seem odd to me that the debate wouldn't go on as planned.

I think the chances of that happening are -200%. Yes, a negative percentage.

You bring up a good point though. Palin isn't involved in the bailout at all, so why didn't McCain suggest that they hold the VP debate on Friday? I realize that may be a conflict for Biden, but that's not McCain's concern.

Well I know what you mean that it's not McCain's concern but in a way, it is b/c he suggested postponing it so they could concentrate on the bailout, er the rescue, whatever they're calling it now.  So forcing Biden to attend a VP debate would be pretty shoddy.

I just want to know if it's on or off.  DAMMIT

  • She's probably going to be busy with Russia.
  • Actually one of the blogs I read this morning had a good point.  Will Palin be in DC this week?  Because if this is so important and she's ready to lead, why isn't she running around, lobbying senators, talking to people, trying to encourage compromise?

That's what the VP will do, so I would hope she would be capable of doing this right now.  Why isn't she?

  • McCain would've been much better off just going to DC today and staying there until tomorrow, and then if the deal wasn't reached, cancelling at the last minute because he "still has real work to do" or something.  The showboating announcement was just foolish.
