Another reason why postponing the debate is BAD!

Is McCain Trying To Kill Debate?

I don't buy this entirely, but it does worry me that we get closer and closer to the election and we have had no substantive debates and no meaningful interaction with one vice-presidential candidate:

McCain's let's-postpone-the-debate idea may not be a real possibility now that Obama has indicated he won't play ball. But here's a factor to consider with the proposal itself: by the time the next scheduled (or, as McCain would have it, "first") presidential debate takes place, 16 states will already be voting. That includes battlegrounds like Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

It's bad enough that voters in a half dozen states are casting ballots right now, before a single debate has been held and after only one opportunity to hear one of the vice-presidential candidates field questions from a reporter.

McCain cannot face the actual campaign on this issues - because he's on the losing side of almost all of them - and so it's all about bells, whistles, shiny objects, drama queen spectacles and propaganda. And in McCain's rattled head, he tells himself that he's pure because he once offered a series of public debates with Obama and Obama turned him down. That's enough for McCain to launch into this totally bizarre and unstable fall campaign. Yes: I said "unstable." What other word currently describes him?

    Already voting?  Via absentee ballots?

That's my assumption. But also don't some states have early polls to prevent long lines on election day? Or am I wrong?

  • I've seen several ads encouraging Floridians to mail in their vote and "early" voting begins in two weeks or so.

  • Postponing a debate a few days is not being unwilling to debate.  It will depend on the timing of the bailout situation.

Obama turned down an opportunity to have 10 mini debates - townhall style. People have not forgotten this fact.

I would love for McCain to agree to debate Friday night with the topic being the economy,

And, this response has absolutely nothing to do with what I posted or the issue of people beginning to vote before a debate is even had.

Where is that red herring picture when I need it?

Come on Sis, we are smarter here than this cheap trick.

  • This has ALWAYS been a problem with absentee/early voting. It's nothing new this year. Every election cycle people cast their votes before hearing all the debates. Now suddenly that Sullivan can use this as a talking point it's to freak out about? That's pretty transparent.

Wrong Caden. This isn't about hearing "all the debates" this is about hearing "no debates."  Nice try to change the issue.

  • The reason I don't support postponing the debates was well articulated by Andrea Mitchell on Morning Joe this morning. ?These dates were negotiated and established months and months ago and agreed to by both the candidates. ?Rescheduling is not as simple as just "Oh, let's do it Monday." I don't like how McCain is going back on his commitment to participate under the original plan.
