Laptop fan runs and runs

About 2 - 3 weeks ago my computer started acting weird. When surfing the internet it would freeze up and was taking forever to open up the browser, etc.

I found that my most recent update for Windows Vista is what caused it to mess up. I reversed the udpate and it is acting normal again.

Except for the dang fun constantly running.

Any recommendations??

ETA: I fixed it with a can of air. Thanks!

Re: Laptop fan runs and runs

  • One theory: the update could be a coincidence.  I would try blowing out the vent area with compressed air; that made a huge difference in my laptop's performance.

Okay, I'll do that once I buy a can of air then. I'll update how it goes.

  • Okay, so I used a can of air on it and voila! I think it fixed it.

    No more running fan.

  • Yay!  Glad to hear it worked!
  • I had this problem a few years back and ended up blowing out my fan.  It had to be replaced.

Where do you put your laptop?  The store recommended to me that I place it on a service where air could get under it.  When I sit on my couch to use it, I prop it on my legs so air can get under the computer.  It has helped a lot.

Ditto ventilation - that can help a lot!

Yea, I have it getting plenty of ventilation. Turns out the fan just needed to be blown out, it works great now. Thanks for the advice!
