go with the xsi.  the extra lens isn't going to be very fast - it may take good pics outside in full sunlight, but in low light it is just too slow and you'll get lots of motion blur.

Re: christen

  • i wish i could find you a good used combo with a really good lens - for the same price you're looking to spend, i could probably locate you a rebel xt with a good 2.8 lens.
  • ugh, I wish I had waited, James called and told me to just go get a camera, he was tired of hearing about it!

So I ended up getting the xs.  I think for my purposes it'll do the trick.  It did come with the extra lens, a REALLY nice (in my amateur opinion) bag and a card.  Oh and a DVD to take you through learning how to use all the settings.

Might not be the best, but I think I'll be happy with it.  And I've used that kind before, so I was more comfortable with how to use it.

I do know that at some point I'll want to get some extra lenses.  I hear a lot about the 50 mm 1.5? lens on the photography board (lurker).  If you ever hear of those for sale for a good price, let me know.  I also am thinking about getting a lightscoop at some point, do they sell those anywhere in BR?  Anything else I should put on my wishlist?

  • you will have to order the lightscoop, it's only sold online.

the 50mm 1.8 is a great low light lens, runs about $90 or so.  occasionally i see a few for sale on photo forums for $60 or so.  i think mrspink has this one, if i'm not mistaken.  when you shoot it wide open, it gives the nice blurry background.

some things you'll eventually want to add would be something like the tamron 17-50 2.8 (around $400, but it's one of the cheaper better lenses out there) and an external flash like a 430EX (i've seen these for $120 or so on photo forums).
