today we got a box from DH's mom in the mail. When I opened it, it's the top layer of our wedding cake hahaha. I'm not willing to eat it considering she mailed it a week and a half ago, but DH intends to eat it. This is the one from our actual wedding. We had another cake at our reception and I just took it out of the freezer so it can thaw...I forgot all about it until I opened this box. So....to eat it or not to eat it? (the mailed one that is)

I'm assuming it was frozen. We don't know for sure she didn't tell us, only told us that she sent us a package.

It might be okay, depending on how it was packaged. For DH's care packages, I usually bake some type of brownies (wrapped in plastic wrap then sealed in a container) and they are fine. It usually takes 2 weeks for DH to receive something too. I think I would be more concerned with the icing than the actual cake depending on what type of icing it is.

I might eat around the icing--year old icing to me (frozen or not) seems icky to me. Icky being a technical food-service term, of course.

I'd probably taste it, but I usually stretch the limits on food eatability. Given the fact that it's been freezing out and I highly doubt the package was being transported in a heated space, I imagine it wouldn't be much worse than having it the fridge...though having something in the fridge for a week & a half is still a long time.
