s/o bad family names

I asked my Mom for some suggestions on some family names from her side.  LOL, I have an Olga, Hester, Esther, Ruth, Agnes and Alfield :/  Hmmm.  I don't think this will be baby Olga Esther Alfield.

What are your "good" family names?

Re: s/o bad family names

  • from my side.. Walter, Dorothy, Della, Martin, Woodrow, Herb, Bertha.. hehe!

We might be using some of DH's Mom's name in a future daughters name (Ronda Christine)... too bad SIL beat us to it, grr.. but I don't think it's bad if cousins have the same middle names.

Eta: We also recently found out that DH might descend from Robert the Bruce!!!! Wouldn't that be presumptious to name a son "The Bruce" haha.

  • My parents both immigrated from Holland, there are doozies.  If we have a boy this time, he will be named after my grandfathers, but the English translation of their names.  For a girl, she is just getting her own name...no Agnes or Aaltje here!

  • On my side...Maude, Ethel, Lanka, Etelka, Gladys, Clara, Madge

On DH side....Christia, Janetta, Marnie, Marg, boys are Louie and Ralph...no joke

I refuse to use any of the above names....man names were bad back in the day!

Good family names...Ive yet to hear one haha good luck!

  • I like my dad's name and grandfather's names - they are strong and manly! lol Leonard and Victor. I have always like my grandmother's name, Claire.

Oy, there are some doozies though...Gertrude, Moise, Alfred.

For the most part, I think the names on both sides of my family and DH's are kinda run of the mill: Brenda, Linda, Mary, Fred, Ron, Frank, John, and a bazillion Jims.

  • Dh's side are odd because his Grandfather was obsessed with naming the kids similar to his name.... So DH's Aunts are Elsa, Elise, Erica, Margie,, his name was eric, so after having his son ERIC, he let his wife name a kid... after her (margie)
And on his mom's side there are pretty standard; Jim, Wayne, Jerry, Allan, Linda, Mary, Albert, Yvonne, Brian.

My mother's side has some good ones.... Mildred Florance (my grandmother) and Wahnieta Aellen (my great grandmother).

Other names are Peal, Ed (just ED), Lolly, Fran, edith, alice, aileen.

I do like August which is my grandfather's middle name.

  • relatively normal names in my family tree but the most unusual/least  appealing are/were Beverly, Sherry, Cora, Barry (not really all that bad)

Dh's family is fully Italian (only ILs live in Australia everyone else is in Tuscany still). Nothing really too odd there Vania, Ivana, Ceserina, Imerio, Maria Pia are the most 'unique' but nothing too odd here either.

my biological father is persian so there are heaps of unusual names on that side but I have no real connection to them so none will be used or passed along (i also don't even know how to spell half of them)

  • We're not really interested in using family names, but if I were to use one, it would be Roch, for my grandfather. There's also Arthur, Yvon, Alice, Harriet, and Annette.

On DH's side, everyone's middle name is either Mary or Joseph. We certainly will not be carrying on that tradition!

  • Family names...  Douglas, Frances, Ernest, Evelyn, Morrison, Alllison.

I love Morrison, but doesn't really work with our last name(s).

My bro and I are both named after each of our grandparents.  So DH and I joke if we were to do that with a baby to be a boy would be John David...  normal enough...  and a girl would be...  Ginny Jane!  Ok, maybe not so funny in writing, but when we say it, it just sounds ridiculous.

  • Thankfully, I do have some nice family names.

Names that are totally not my style are Yuri, Mikhail, Esperanza, Jessenia, Ricardo, and Ilya.

I am half Russian and Spanish so those are some of the few that are kind of out there unless I was living in Spain or Russia.

Nice ones? Aleksandra, Vera, Nikolai, Cristina, Dmitry, Lidiya, Marisol, and Ana Maria.
