I think I am going to be okay
My boss quit yesterday. I adore my boss and she's awesome and wonderful and has been a great mentor. I am devastated she is leaving. I went mute for quite a while after she called me and had a mini-break down when we got off the phone.
The Sr. VP called me last night to talk to me about my job, my role, and how whoever takes her place as my manager WILL continue to support my role and my telecommute situation.
Today, my boss asked me for my top choices as a new manager and who I do not want to report to. So it at least makes me feel like my opinion might count.
I should know Friday who I will report to as of early March.
Re: I think I am going to be okay
It's rare to get a boss that great so I can understand why you were upset. Sounds like your Senior VP is no slouch either; it must have been reassuring to hear that your telecommute won't be affected by the change. And how awesome that you get a say in who you report to.
No wonder you love working at this place.
I hope it all works out. It sounds like your VP acknowledges how valuable you are to the company.
Is there any chance you would be taking over for your boss?
Oh good heavens, no. I am no where near ready for that- plus I don't want that job! It would mean abandoning my program and all that I have done to build it and I don't want that at all! It is my baby!
I manage a legal program within HR. I am the first to do it at this company so I have basically created the program, my position and responsibilities. Now that we are expanding internationally (more) it gives me a chance to also manage programs at our new sites in other countries (although the laws are different, they are still in place and I still have to create and manage internal policies). Very exciting.
Wow, that sounds incredible, it really is "your baby", I've always enjoyed creating/working with a program from its inception, plus the work you're doing sounds amazing. I find that I'm more invested that way, and that its something I really take pride in.
