Can people become crazy dog ladies (like crazy cat ladies)? My coworker wants a dog and I am looking at Petfinder (trying to persuade him to adopt rather than buy...I was going over the finer points of making sure you are getting the dog from a reputable breeder and he got completely overwhelmed
) and I want to take all of the doggies home with me!
It is a very serious dream of mine to retire on an old farm and take in dogs. Reading the stories of how these little guys/girls ended up in shelters breaks my heart, I want to snuggle them all! I just can't ever imagine abusing an animal! Until I can fulfill my dream I'll just love the little guy I've got

Re: Crazy Dog Lady?
Yes, people can become crazy dog ladies--I learned that from watching hoarders. The different is, though, (I think) that hoarders treat the dogs like objects rather than sentient beings.
That being said, you're not the crazy old dog lady and I doubt you'll become one.
It depends. Are you going to put them all in obnoxious sweaters, wear obnoxious sweatshirts with dogs on them yourself, and decorate your house with 100% dog memorabilia? Then yes, you will be a crazy dog person.
Nothing wrong with a little crazy, though.
But if you're going to just have a lot of dogs (or foster, or whatever) and simply enjoy being doggy mommy, then more power to you.
Did you peek into my house?
Kidding. No, I'm definitely not going to spend my time cross stitching dog faces to hang out my wall or have dusty dog figurines on every square inch! I think I'm safe

I know a ton of people with a lot of dogs. My mom has 6 and they're all indoors.
At my old job one of my co-workers (Karin) was the main person in charge of an animal rescue group. I helped her out with a lot of stuff and I know the feeling of wanting to take them all in.
There actually is a man in VA who retired on a huge farm and built a very big heated barn full of kennels instead of stables. He fosters up to 50 dogs at a time and Karin puts their pictures on petfinder to find them homes. The rescue group she runs pays for those dogs' shots, spay, and neuter bills. He has several students from the high school who take turns helping out on the farm after school. The ones that don't find homes live out their full, healthy, happy lives on the farm.
So you're definitely not alone.
This just made my day. I all teared up. What a wonderful gift to those animals! Do you know where in VA he is located? He might be close enough for me to tell my co-worker about him

You're not a crazy dog lady, you're just an animal lover.
The old women who lived in the basement in Coraline were crazy dog ladies :-P
I'm really not sure. I know it's a few hours from me so I've never been there or met him. He's not a seperate organization and I don't think his dogs are under one specific organization on petfinder. I don't know how to figure out which ones are on his farm.
lol....I saw a huge collection of Corgi figurines for sale at an antique mall the other day.....I thought they would all look nice spread out on display on the top of my dresser.....
This is next...
LMAO...... yes! I need one!
