#*@$#*&

I'm going to have to pick up my own crap.

Yes, you read that right.

I've had a service come out once a week to pick up behind my 2 dogs for what I consider a reasonable fee. Except for most of Dec & Jan, the owner had someone else doing it - and well, he wasn't doing it or was half-as.sing it every week. My H got pretty aggravated about it and after calling the guy 3xs to complain, we finally had to discontinue the service.

I've only been able to find one other company locally that does it and they're wanting to charge me double. @#*$&#% Since it was already a splurge item in our budget at the first price, I just can't justify paying someone almost $100/m to come pick up my yard - especially when it only takes about 10 minutes to do it.

Re: #*@$#*&

  • This is another reason I don't have a dog.

lol! We have only 1 dog, and he's really little. Little dogs = little poops. But when he passes on, DH and I have agreed to be pet-free forever.

  • I'm laughing but I am so VERY sorry that you are dealing with this crap (ha!).  FWIW, the best way, for me, is to "glove" my arm with a newspaper bag and pick it up.  If I've neglected the yard I put it all in a plastic grocery bag and keep the newspaper bag on until I'm finished.  It's not so bad in dry weather-snowy winter weather-well let's just not go there!

And my delightful, wonderful husband can't deal with doggy messes.  I'm on my own with the poo and puke.

  • One of my friends pays a neighbor girl $10 each time she does this...  I know it's a long shot, but maybe you can find a set up like this???

  • I feel your pain. I am completely not looking forward to my yard in the spring since we got pretty lazy with the whole picking up crap thing in the fall. DH keeps saying that we need to just hire one of those companies to do it for us, but with the price you said we're just going to stick to our kroger bags and once a week pick up ourselves.

Forwhat it's worth there has to be more than two companies who do this in the Cincinnati Area.

I've got a lead on two more companies that I'm going to call today. If those don't work, I might just post something on Craig's List. There has to be someone willing to come pick up my yard once a week for $50/m.

  • We don't have dogs but my IL's did and I dog sat for them every once in awhile.  They had a mini rake and scoop thing to collect the poo and then dumped it into a bucket outside the house.  They were really good about watching the dog go (from indoors for comfort) and then went out to scoop after she did her business.  It helped that the dog was on a runner so there was only limited area where she could go, too.  I'm assuming that when it was full they capped the bucket and threw it in the trash but I'm not really sure...

It was nice b/c your hands didn't have to touch anything (eww...warm poo!) and you didn't have to bend over.  Also, it kept the poop off the yard and minimized the number of trips that you had to take out the trash.

  • My parents have 5 dogs and pick up their own crap. My mom bought this little rake and dustpan looking thing at Tractor Supply (I believe) and uses that. It's for dog crap and it works really well. The pan has a long handle on it so you don't have to bend over. Then she just keeps a smallish trashcan with a liner in it specifically for crap and empties it as needed. It may be a suggestion for you to save that $50/mo

  • Proof that there is a job out there for everyone.  I had no idea you could hire someone to pick up your dog crap.

  • And THAT is why we have a cat ;)

For real, wherever we used to order pizza from always came with an ad taped to the box for a dog crap removal service. How appetizing!

  • I'll add - it's not that I need suggestion on HOW to pick up behind my dog myself. I know how. I've had dogs for years. I just hired a service last Summer and frankly, it was an AWESOME investment. I have buckets and scoops and dust pans and bags. I have all of these things. I have two hands and I have a husband with two hands and scoops and buckets and bags and dust pans.

I just don't want to do it and I'm willing to pay someone else to do it. To me, it is no different than paying someone to come dust your house. You could do it yourself, but you don't want to/have time to/are too lazy too - whatever your reasons. I do my own dusting so I can splurg on someone else picking up dog crap. This is one of the tension points in our house - b/c neither of us want to do it, but we both love having our dogs and having a clean yard. It's worth $50/m to me to NOT have a conversation once a week with H as to whose turn it is to go pick up the yard.

Well excuse me for suggesting an alternative!

It wasn't meant as a slam on you for suggesting an alternative. It was a statement that I am really lazy on this issue and would prefer to spend the time I have with my dog doing other things. Sorry you took it personally. It wasn't meant that way.

  • No problem! I definately took it the wrong way, but thanks for clarifying.
