Gas shortages??

Have you all been experiencing gas shortages in your area? It's been crazy around here lately - half the gas stations are out of gas, and the prices have skyrocketed. Apparently it's all due to rumors - people have just been going nuts because they're afraid gas will run out, so then it DOES run out, rinse repeat.

I thought it was just Atlanta, but my aunt said there was no gas in her small town in North Carolina either.

Is anyone else seeing this in your city??

Re: Gas shortages??

  • I've heard this is happening places, but not around STL.  I hope IL is not having this problem since I'm driving to Chicago tomorrow.

  • I haven't heard of anything out this way, but I don't drive so I'm usually the last to know about prices and such.

ETA: But my FIL works at one of the local refineries. Seems like we would have heard something.

  • Here there have been traffic jams and accidents caused by the long lines of people at gas stations trying to get their gas before it runs out. It's insanity!! And there's no real reason for it, that's what gets me!

I'm just glad we live close to the hospital! I'd rather not deliver this baby in line at BP.

  • I though this was only happening in the burbs? The Gas Station near Grant Park have gas. Come by and see me!!!

I thought so too, but just this afternoon I passed by the station at 10th and W P'tree and it was all out!

Fortunately I hardly drive at all, so I won't need to fill up for a while, but it's just crazy to see this happening for no apparent reason.

  • yes, there are some stations out of gas here, too.
  • Wow. No that's not happening here. I'm sorry TTT. That sucks.
  • Actually it's the cheapest it's been here in a LOOOONG time.  I love fake crisis brought on in an effort to raise prices again.  Hmph.  Seriously, the hurricanes didn't deliver as they though so now on to something new.

  • I've seen several posts about this, but only from people in the Southeast. I hope it doesn't filter up here!

  • My cousin & aunt live in Asheville, NC and said that the shortage is awful--waiting in line for 45 minutes and then the pumps running out, many stations not having gas. It sounds horrible--sorry to hear you're dealing with it, too!
  • I talk to customers on the phone from those areas and they are all saying the same thing you are.  Specifically, GA and the carolinas seem to having a hard time with gas shortages.  CT is not having any shortage that I can see.

  • Not here... gas is down to like $3.30/gallon, too.

    I just paid 4.30 today!!!!!!!!

TTT- The gas at 10th and Peachtree is being used up by commuters. The BP at the Boulevard Exit at 20 has plenty of gas.

  • I filled up my tank on Tuesday and there were several pumps out of gas. I didn't think much of it until I watched the local news and they said our area was experiencing shortages because of the hurricane. I live in Dallas.

  • I heard the problem in the SE was because of a pipeline being damaged or something...that was the reason GA, NC and TN were struggling with gas.

We have no problems here in FL because our gas doesn't come in on pipelines--it's shipped in. However, quite a few local BP stations have had sporadic closings. Story in our local paper said it was because one of their refineries was the hardest hit.

But aside from BP, I haven't seen any stations here closed or out of gas. We had major issues after Wilma though (when the power was out and only a handful of stations had power), so I understand the frustration, TTT. Driving around looking for gas and then sitting in line while watching your needle slip closer and closer to E SUCKS!

  • No.....gas prices have been dropping.   We're about $3.59/ gallon now.
And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
  • So, gas prices are dropping in the states, yet we're still at 4.06 on base?  It's supposed to be much cheaper for us (on base only, certainly not off base) b/c we don't pay any state taxes.  And, it's supposed to be partially subsidized b/c it's considered a benefit.  You have to have a mil ID to use this gas pump.  Damn, that makes me pissed off they're not dropping our prices here.

I've heard of this gas shortage thing.  It really kind of surprised me.  Reminds me I need to go out and buy a new bike before moving.

  • Def not at all here - prices are still dropping (I think about 3.70 or so now)
