Stacy Update #1

Just heard from Nick.  They have given her an epidural but she has not dialated so they are giving her something to hopefully help with that.  It's called cyotech (those who've had babies may know what this is).  That is all I know for now.

  • Thank you for the update.  I have no idea what cyotech is, I hope it works for her.

  • I've been googling cyotec and appartently it's something to help soften the cervix.  It's typically done before pitocin.

  • I always thought ( or at least my limited viewing of a baby story on TLC) that they tried not to give the EPI because it slowed everything down.  She must be having bad contractions.

  • ::sending lots of positive thoughts their way::
  • I think they tried a different type of medicine to thin her cervix before so it must not have worked well. I know how nervous she was so hopefully the epi will help her calm down a bit. Lots of positive thoughts!

  • I hope it helps!  And ditto Kristin - she was so anxious about all of this. Sad
  • She started with cervidal last night.  He didn't say anything about contractions.  I'm sure she will tell us all about it after it's all done.

  • Thanks for the update, I've been thinking about  her all day. I hope it all goes well.

pitocin can cause really bad contractions (at least my experience), they may have given her the epidural because of that (it did slow my labor), but it is odd they wouldn't have tried to soften / dialate her cervix before they started pitocin. She had said they had prepaired her for a C-section so maybe that's next if this doesn't work. ~positive vibes~

  • Good luck to her! I am hoping this goes smoothly for her
  • thanks for the update, keeping her in my thoughts today!

I don't think she has started the pitocin yet.  She was pretty upset yesterday because the doctor had led her to believe that she was going to have a c-section but then it didn't go that way.

  • I don't know enough about child birth to even sound intelligent in this thread so I will just say positive thoughts to her and I hope this happens quickly for her.  My BFF was in labor forever before her little girl finally came (I'm thinking they induced her at 8 pm on a Monday and the baby finally came at 3am on a Wednesday - without a c-section..but they could have induced early Tuesday...I can't remember now).

  • Mandy, I've been through child birth and don't even know what some of this stuff is.  Granted, David was a little over a month early and I never had to discuss these options with the Doctore.  Hell, I asked for the EPI, a minute later I was pushing, and there went that chance.

  • Totally speculating here-She said in her post yesterday I believe (or it could be when I talked to her) that they were doing the cervidil last night and starting the pitocin this morning.  They would not give an epi unless she is is in pain from contractions, and the use of pitocin is to get contractions started. Some people have an ok response to pitocin and others have a really hard time with it. What is sounds like to me, and again I am speculating, is that they started the pitocin, she is having contractions, but it is not making any changes to her cervix so they are probably trying the cyotech now to see if that helps any.  I had a planned c/s but I read every book about pregnancy/birth (especailly for multiples) that I could get my hands on, watch all the birth shows on tv and have been on the baby boards here for a few years to kind of understand all these terms :)
  • GL to Stacy!  How crazy is this?  There's going to be another little May07 baby by the end of the weekend for sure (I hope anyway...can you imagine having to be in labor that long?!)
Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!
