The wedding gift you've never used?

I was cleaning the kitchen last night when I came across the blender DH insisted we register for.  I knew I didn't want it and wouldn't use it but he insisted we get one.  It's been sitting in a cabinent ever since the wedding, and I'm considering returning it to BB&B.

So what gift(s) did you receive that you haven't used?  Did you register for it?  Did you want it then? Do you want it now?

Re: The wedding gift you've never used?

  • There are a few... the crystal goblets/wine glasses that my mom thought we needed.  Still in boxes.  There isnt room to store them in my kitchen/dining room so they will likely not be used before we move and even then they will be like the formal china (which we already had and didnt register for at least).

We are saving our towels, still using the old ones to keep the new ones nice and clean so we have something that looks good when we put the house on the market.

I actually did return the super nice blender we got as a wedding gift.  As much as I cook, I only use the blender for smoothies and frozen drinks and my $50 Oster blender works just fine.  I returned the $150 one we got (that we didnt register for) so I dont blame you for returning it.

  • We're in the same boat with the blender. We didn't have one so I thought it would be a good idea to register for one.  My aunt got it for us, and it's really nice, I just don't have a need for it right now.

We also registered for china, but only got 1 set so we returned it. But one of DH's friends got us 2 china "pasta" bowls that went with the china place settings, and we decided to keep them. I don't know what we're ever going to do with them, but right now they're hanging out with the blender taking up cabinet room.

  • On the registry: wine glasses, everyday glasses, prep bowls, and other thins

Not on the registry: roasting pan, sno-cone maker, and this weird hugeass serving container for vegetables.

You really don't use this stuff?  Are you still using your old stuff or something?

Why would someone have thought you would want to make a snowcone yourself when you get that craving once a year?  If I ever want a snowcone, I'll happily drive somewhere to satisfy the need.

  • I haven't used my food processor yet, but I'm convinced I will! Only other thing I think we haven't used is a beautiful vase (not on registry) that we got around Christmas as a late gift.  I thought about returning it but it's gorgeous and we'd never buy ourselves something like that, so we'll keep it. Part of my 101 in 1001 is to buy fresh flowers every month. That was inspired by this vase!
We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

Weird, huh? The wine glasses I haven't had the chance to use, but I will soon. :) And the everyday glasses -- I still have good old ones, and I don't have room to unpack the new ones in the cupboard so they're still in the box. The prep bowls I ... well, don't make complicated recipes, and I generally use the same bowl when I do cook or bake.

Yeah, but you're in Texas where there is a snow cone stand on every corner! :)

I know! It is by far the most ridiculous gift we got. I have no idea WTF to do with it. It will probably get re-gifted to one of my nieces.

Good call.  Maybe I'll treat myself to one today :)

Although Mamie could probably scoop some of the snow from outside and pour koolaid on it herself.  Voila!  Instant snow cone!

Indeed! Who needs a sno-cone maker when you live in the Northeast?!

  • Excellent question!  Upon reflection, there is actually very little that we use that we registered for.

We got approximately 10 serving dishes and platters, about half we registered for and half were surprises.  I don't know when I'm going to have to serve so many things at once, but I imagine we'll rotate through them over the years.  I certainly did my best to use as many as I could on Thanksgiving.

We registered for a digital picture frame which we still haven't used.  Also a camp stove, because we haven't yet been camping (but don't think I haven't been trying to set that up!).

We got 0 sheets, towels, blankets, throw pillows or anything soft.  Pretty much only dishes and kitchen stuff.  Isn't that weird?

That's understandable... we have similar issues with the space constraints.  I'm really not sure how 2 people managed to fill up our 1500 sq ft house but it just seems like all the storage is in the wrong space (i.e. the giant upstairs bath and walk in guest room closets instead of the kitchen, linen closet, etc.)

  • Turkey roasting pan and carver set ? Our apartment oven isn't even big enough to fit the pan, and we can't entertain with enough people to warrant cooking a turkey. Maybe we can use it when we get to the new house.

We are saving the 2 sets of sheets we got until our current 2 sets wear out.

ALso candles - i have a stockpile of fancy candles people have given me that i never use.

Besides that ive made an attempt to use most stuff weve gotten at least once, whether from registry or not.

  • Registered for - fondue pot and electric knife.  It is really disappointing because I thought we would use both a lot more but we have so little space that we never entertain.  Hopefully once we move that will change because we will have 200 sq. ft. more storage space.

Not registered for - china.  My sister got us 6 place settings and it's a great set but I have nowhere to store/display it and again, we don't entertain that often.  When we do it is because someone had too much to drink, spent the night, and I made breakfast.  Also there is a great glass pitcher and a few tupperware containers for veggies.

  • We got an antique coffee pot, which we haven't ever used, and probably never will, and a digital picture frame that's seen no action yet. There are several gifts we've only used once--the electric knife, china. But for the most part, we get good use out of what we registered for.

  • Blenders must be the theme. I thought we needed one and that we would use it at least 5 times a year. It still looks pretty in it's box.  We also got a chip/dip set that I plan to use this summer and a digital picture frame.  I'm just to lazy to load the pictures on that, it is out of the box though and doing a great job collecting dust.
  • A lot of my "hostess" stuff -- bar kit, chip/dip set, cheese platter, etc. We haven't  had time to host parties!
