Ali -- hospital bag

I felt like we were hijacking Emily's post.

I have a massively long list that will hopefully get pared down a lot once I actually start packing.  I can email it to you if you'd like but basically it's broken up into 4 parts: L&D bag, my bag, stuff for MrShoe, stuff for Baby Shoe.

Re: Ali -- hospital bag

  • I decided to just be a PW instead...

L&D bag: toothbrush/paste, mouthwash, dry shampoo, bobby pins/rubber bands, cash & quarters, snacks for MrShoe, socks, sleep bra, rice pack, lotion, chapstick, wallet (DL, insurance cards), brush, deodorant, glasses, contacts, camera & battery, cell phone, notepad & pen (no clue why this is on there), breath mints, q-tips, hard candy, cord donation paperwork, dr's office paperwork

  • That would be great if you can email it to me. We're only about a minute away from L&D at the hospital, so if we forget something it's not a huge deal. I would just like to be prepared as possible.

Hmm, maybe.  Just doesn't seem like something I would think to pack.  Oh well!  I'll stick it in there!

    birthing ball
    tennis balls

Headbands don't stay on my head very well.  That's where the bobby pins come into play.

We live close to the hospital as well so I figured he'll just go home to shower.

  • Definitely on the panties (comfy ones) and yoga pants. I saw your question marks. They'll give you ibuprofen and vicodin every couple of hours, as needed. They'll also have the cream, pads, diapers, etc.

Thanks!  I was hoping some moms would chime in on what was needed and what was unnecessary.

I've heard about the mesh panties at the hospital so that's why I had a question mark next to the panties.  I wasn't planning on going commando.  Just for clarification.

  • I forgot about the mesh ones. I don't think I used them. When you said that I thought of my friend who only wears thongs. Even pregnant. She sent someone to the store to get her some real ones. Freaking nuts!
  • I'm a little late on this post but definitely use the mesh panties.  They are wonderful.  I even brought them home and washed them and laid them flat so I could continue wearing them.  The hospital has plenty of pads, so there is no need to bring those.  I highly recommend getting some Always overnight extra long pads to use when you get home.  They were wonderful.  I also bought some extra panties in a size bigger than I normally wear.  I had a c-section and all my regular panties hit right at my incision.

Don't forget your baby book.  I didn't take mine in the delivery room, so her footprints aren't on the book page.  They did give me her prints on paper though.

I brought my hair dryer and never used it.  By the time I took a shower, I really didn't feel like primping.  I used the hospital's breast pump which was just fine.  I took all the extra parts home they gave me because they were compatible with my madela pump.

    Hope this helps.

This was UBER helpful.  I have a Medela pump as well so I'd be ecstatic if they sent me home with new parts.  Thank you!  =)  And come out to play more often.

I seriously laughed when I read this.  A thong would get lost among my cellulite.  But kudos to her I suppose.
