Shoe, MT, Pink

I know Shoe and MT have pets (not sure about you Pink).

I just wanted to see if your pets know something is up.  I have two cats, and one of them lives completely in her own world. The other one can always tell when were about to go on a trip, or if I am sick, etc. The past three or four days she has not left me alone. She follows me everywhere I go, I guess to make sure I am ok.

I am sure she knows that there is about to be a big ol' change, she just doesn't know what yet.

Are your animals showing any kind signs that they know what's up?

Re: Shoe, MT, Pink

  • Sometimes she does.  When we were cleaning out the nursery, she was a nervous wreck.  Now she's ok but I still worry about her.  She gets pretty clingy to me in the evenings so I'm hoping the baby transition is a smooth one.  I'm going to have MrShoe bring a blanket home with him at some point for her to smell.  It's kind of dumb but I'm not sure what else to do for her.

Honestly, for the most part, she's pretty self involved, cares only about herself and is oblivious to what is going on around her.  LOL

  • I don't think so, Nanette is recently on Zanex and prozac so it's hard to say. I can't wait for the first time she is sitting on me or next to me and Cletus kicks her.

The cat that follows me around, Daisy, has always been the type of cat who wants to sit near me but not on me. She will sit on the arm of the couch or the back of the couch, but that is close enough for her. The past few days she has been lying on my belly and lap, and she has been kicked a few times. She doesn't seem to be bothered by it, she's a completely different kitty than she has been in the past.

Shoe, I think having MrShoe bring home a blanket is a good idea, it will start getting her used to the smell of baby. Vets say that's a good way to introduce new animal additions to the other animals of the house. I don't see why it wouldn't work for babyShoe too.

It's what our vet recommended.  She's uber spoiled by both of us; I just don't want her to think we love her any less.

  • Yes, we have an inside pup and 2 outside. Toby (inside Morkie, see siggy) knows something is up. He sleeps under my belly and sometimes gets a good kick! From day one I have not let him in the nursery and he's so good about it now! He lays down the hall when I'm in there. Too cute!

He is still hyper though and has been marking since I got pg. So he got neutered today in hopes to settle him down some. Plus things are changing around the house and he will no longer be able to run the house during the day. The final new carpet goes down on Monday and he won't be left unsupervised. that will be the biggest change for him. He's learned not to get on mommy's belly even though he's jsut 6 lbs. I got a lot of good info at the Babies and Pets class at Baby Grand. I'll have to post the flyer from it. I've been meaning to find it anyway.

We've been doing this with Coco as well.  She knows that she can't be hyper in there and she's not allowed on the recliner.  Although she loves to climb all over my belly and I have to fuss at her.

  • We won't have the opportunity to bring a blanket home, but I have heard that's great. Also playing baby sounds CDs from the nursery is supposed to be good. We have Nanette enrolled in a "bringing home baby" class at the Vet. She's so neurotic, but she was the first baby.
I'm actually a little nervous about Geraldine, she was NOT happy when Pappagano came into the mix and she gets quite jealous when someone is getting attention and she doesn't. So I'm glad my parents will be at the house when we first come home so my dad can shower her with love.

  • I do remember the vet that spoke at the class said for the "main parent" read dog's favorite to come in first, alone, and be overly excited, paying attention only to them, even offer a treat. Then have SO come in with the baby. After that, I forget! But you do want to pay lots of attention to the furbaby or they will feel dissed from the start.
