So, I told you guys that we were having a SA done last weekend. Well we got the results today, if you can call it that. Some assistant called Vance and told him he is "abnormal". She has no idea what that means, or how to explain any of it. Just that we had to call a "male dr. that could explain it better" and get an appointment with him. So Vance calls to make the appointment and is told we can't get in to see him until MAY!! Are you kidding? Like this process isn't hard enough without this!! WTF does abnormal mean? "We don't know, but you can find out in 3 months." Thanks a heap!!
Oh yeah, and my race went really well! I did the 5k in 40.33, thats the fastest one I have ever done, so I am really proud of myself. Hopefully the next one will be under 40min.
Re: News from the doctor...
Is there any way you can get a copy of his analysis? They should be able to provide you with the copy of it and from there you can possibly figure out what they mean by "abnormal". It may seem like a bunch of foreign numbers but enough research you can get a general idea as to what they are talking about. There is a very large difference between low volume, low mobility and disfigured sperm. I hope you are able to find some sort of clarification sooner than may but I do understand the time frame for all of that b.s. It's a pain and I am sorry you are having to deal with waiting on top of the monthly struggle.
Great news on the race! So proud of you.
Doctors never let you in on whats going on till like that last min. I hate that!
But Congrats on the race!! 40.33 GREAT JOB!!
I agree with amlinton on this one, total BS. Like you said, it's already hard enough and having this news and no answers just doesn't settle and worries. I hope you get answers soon!
Good work on the race, I envy those that can run.
Ditto. I'd try to see if you can get a copy. Or, even just have the dr call you. That's really weird to me that they can't schedule you much sooner. It's not like you're a new patient. Can you try calling and speaking to someone else in the office about going in sooner? You should never have to wait that amount of time to review test results. Maybe another dr is the way to go? GL!
Sorry you guys have to worry about this. Doctors can be so insensitive sometimes. My ob told us that our problem was in the shape and that his were two headed or two tailed and stuff like that but she really couldn't explain any better. Scared us to death. Once we got a better explanation from a fertility dr we realized it wasn't as bad as it sounded.
Like PP said they generally test three things - Volume(how many there are) , Motility (if they swim forward) and Morphology (how they are shaped). Fortunately abnormal doesn't necessarily mean bad. My DH has very low morphology but very good volume. Lots of them are out there just some are swimming in circles or running into each other.
We still have to go through fertility treatment but it allows us more options and less expensive measures.
Is this his first SA? If so he may need to have another one. Different things going back as far as 3 months ago can affect the test. For example hot tub usage and illness.
Thisthisthis. My spine doc is incredibly popular and even though I had an in, the first appointment I made wasn't until 2 and a half month later. However, I was able to get in the very next week because of a cancelation and my ability to be flexible!
Yes! I have this with my dermatologist--over 3 mos of waiting... Maybe get on the list for if someone cancels, if poss w DH work... that just stinks!
Ugh - what a crappy way to give you the results. I agree that you should get a copy of the report and try to get in with the doc sooner. I hope its a mild issue that can be fixed or worked around easily. GL!
Congrats on the race time!
TTC #1 13 cycles, CP 6/09, TTC #2 1 cycle
CDing, EP'd for 13 months for #1, BFing for #2
Pregnancy Hypertension - inductions at 39w, I grow big babies: DD was 9 pounds 1 ounce 22 inches, DS was 11 pounds even 22 inches - both vaginal deliveries
That's a crappy way to give you the results, and I hope they can actually get him in earlier!!!
But YAY for the race - congrats! That's a fantastic accomplishment!
I ditto everyone else. That truly sucks that you are going through. I hope that very soon you will have all the answer that you need!
Congrats on the race, that is fantastic!
Thanks for all the advice and congrates, guys! Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I called them today to see if I could get a copy to go over on my own. I also got a voicemail from another dr there saying she would be happy to go over the results over the phone with us. So hopefully we'll be able to talk to her soon. I may try to swing over there on my lunch tomorrow. Vance also remembered something about an anomoly? I don't know what that means either. I tried to google it but it really didn't help.
I will definatly post again when I get the results! Thanks for letting me vent!!
