The most appalling baby shower games
So, I am helping to plan a shower for two girls in my program who are both due soon. I said I would handle the games. I have been googling and came across this gem this afternoon:
"Bobbing for Pacis"
Fill a large container with water or substance such as pudding or oatmeal. Place several pacifiers inside the water/mixture and without using their hands, have guests try to retrieve as many as possible with their mouths.
EWWW! A substance?? Can you imagine sticking your head in a bucket of pudding (or oatmeal??) and then enjoying a lovely party for the rest of the afternoon?
Re: The most appalling baby shower games
I mean, most of them are just really boring like "who can stack a pile of diapers the highest" or stupid like "write a list of words in baby talk and their regular translations."
Also, surprisingly, because both of the moms are having boys, there are a lot of games/activities that focus on how much the moms are going to be peed on while changing diapers. Like, in playing "pin the diaper on the baby" you're supposed to blindfold the moms and then squirt them with a squirt gun so they "get a taste of what they're in for." Who hates their friends that much?

Yeah baby shower games are pretty awful... my personal favorite: pass around diapers filled with "poo" that is really melted candy bars and you have to smell it and identify the candy. Disgusting.
Another favorite -- how many squares of tissue will it take to go around mom-to-be's stomach? super fun - let's make mom feel even better about being giant. Nice.
I hate pretty much all shower games but that's just me.

I won this one when I played it for the first time! I know my candy bars! I say it's my favorite so far. Last one I went to had little boxes with scented cotton balls in it and you had to guess the baby scent. It had stuff like baby aspirin crushed up, baby dimetap, baby food, baby lotion, etc. It was really hard!

My 101
Best Shower Game Ever (if the mom-to-be likes celebs):
Match the Celebrity Couple to their Insane/Asinine/Random Baby Name
So, you have one column with the couple or famous party (i.e.: Penn Gillette of Penn & Teller) and in the other column you have the kid's name (i.e.: Moxie Crimefighter...yes, that's his daughter's name...).
Worst Shower Game Ever:
Guess the Baby Food based on TASTE. :P
This one is only fun if the food for tasting is peaches, plums, or apples. But every time I've ever been forced to play, it's been turkey or strained peas or other gross food.
I got turned down, anyway. The moms also will not let us measure their bellies or play bingo of what gifts they are opening. So we are doing celebrity baby names and decorating onesies. Woo hoo.

See, that would be okay. Really, the worst two every were the "meat" ones anyway. The fruit ones are tasty. I'm okay with those. But I might give you shifty side eyes at carrots.
I'm actually currently watching the Gilmore Girls episode with Lane's baby shower, where they are painting Onesies.
Another game idea that I do like: create a pool for birth time (rather than guessing birth date). Divide the 24 hours into the number of guests that are at the party and have each person guess a block of time. Whoever ends up being closest (post-birth, obviously) wins something.
I've played the celeb baby name one before and it's actually pretty fun.
The last baby shower I went to had a game I'd never played before - you got a list of all of the letters of the alphabet and had to come up with a baby or new mom related item that started with each letter. The catch was that you only got a point if it was a unique item - no one else in the group could have that item. It was a different one, which is a tough thing to do with shower games!
Decorating onesies sounds fun.
I love shower games, though. Even if they're cheesy. Other good ones I've heard:
-the don't say "baby" one....Everyone is giving one of those big plastic pacifiers to wear as a necklace. If someone says the word "baby" and you notice it, you can take that person's necklace. Whoever has the most necklaces at the end of the shower wins a prize.
-the draw a baby on a plate on your head one.....Everyone puts a paper plate on top of her head. Then everyone has to try to draw a baby on the paper plate (obviously you can't look because the plate is on your head). Whoever has the best drawing (I think the lady who the shower is for decides) gets a prize.

I've been to showers with the tasting game, the poo candy bar diapers, and see how much ribbon it takes to put around the mom to be. I am hosting my sister's shower and we are doing 2 activities. First is just an ice breaker for everyone to introduce themselves and how they know my sister or my BIL. The second is having everyone write a piece of advice on and stick it in some cute jar for my sister to have after she has the baby. I want people to be able to talk more than have to play games.
I would play the stick your face in something nasty game only so I wouldn't look rude, I'd lose though.
I played the celebrity one too, it was actually quite fun.
I also think the gift bingo can be fun. It keeps people interested in the opening of the presents because they have to see if someone gave what they wrote in their bingo square.
that bobbing for paci's game sounds disgusting!!! i am just picturing women all dressed up but with their faces covered in pudding, ewww!!
i always like gift bingo, and the celebrity baby names one sounds fun too!
SBS, thanks! I already have one, though. I found one online and then updated it with some awesome new name's (MIA's baby's name is Ickhyd, for example).
And Megs, I know! Imagine doing your makeup and hair all nice, and then they want you to stick your head in what?? And then you have to smoosh it around because you're looking for pacifiers in there. And what if you're not the first one? You're sticking your head in other people's pudding? (that's the other OPP)

agreed that there are a lot of really gross games.
When I did my friend's baby shower we played a game where you freeze a small baby toy ( I used plastic cake decoration things that were shaped like bottles or safety pins) into ice cubes. Everyone is supposed to get an ice cube and whoever gets theirs to melt first and retrieve the toy is supposed to say "my water broke."
It sounded like a fun game at the time, we were having an outdoor summer shower, but the game seemed to take forever.
