What is this envelope budget system you speak of? I'm curious...
Re: Bethie
I'll butt in because I think I know!
I think it's where you put money in different envelopes that you can spend for the month. Or week. Or however you set it up. Like, you put $400 or whatever amount in an envelope for groceries for the month, and you can only spend money on groceries out of there--once it's gone, it's gone and you can't buy any more groceries until the next month. Same thing for gas, eating out money, etc.
michelle has it right! the money that will stay in our checking account will be money for rent, utilities, phone, etc. that you can't really pay cash for. i'm going to be setting up those bills on auto-draft as soon as we get a handle on the envelopes. our envelopes are: tithe, savings, gas (one for each of us), spending money (one for each of us), restaurants, and groceries. once the envelope is empty, we've got to wait til the next week.
i'm reallllllly excited about starting it!!
i think it's going to work well.
that sounds like a great system - I think we might have to start it, we were JUST talking about revamping our budget anyway so might as well give it a shot!
tithing is what you give to the church ie the money in the collection plate
carrie is correct. to zach and i, it's the top 10% of our income.
