Brewery Tours in the triangle?

My dad is coming to visit next weekend.  We wanted to take him on a brewery tour.  Which would you recommend?  I was thinking about the aviator brewery in Fuquay...has anyone done that one?

Our meetup is doing one at the Big Boss Brewery in March so I don't really want to do that one.  I also heard you have to be in line an hour early for that one....

Has anyone been to any of the local breweries...how early should we arrive, etc...

Re: Brewery Tours in the triangle?

  • Carolina Brewing Company does a free beer tour every Saturday, I think at 1:00.  It's in Holly Springs.

  • Today Groupon's deal is a tour of LoneRider Brewery in Raleigh.  I had never heard of it, but that might be one worth looking into!
  • Mmmm, LoneRider makes Shotgun Betty Hefeweizen.  It's super tasty!
  • I've been to Aviator, and it is REALLY small.  If you did the Carolina tour in Holly Springs first, it would be fun to do after (that's what we did), but I wouldn't make the trip out there just for the Aviator tour.

LoneRider is cool - not many beers to sample, but close & fun.  Carolina is truly the best, though - several beers to sample & they give you full size beers!

  • Big Boss is good.  They only do it once a month, so your next chance would the in March with your meetup group is going.  Definitely get there early and try to get in the first tour group.

I would recommend Carolina Brewing Company in Holly Springs for next weekend.

  • I also recommend Caroling Brewing Co in HollySprings.  We go all the time!  You get full size beers as many as you want while they keep the taps on and you actually get a tour that is pretty informative.  They just released their Ground Hog Day Stout, which smells amazing.  DH got a six pack a couple of weeks ago and he's saving some for me!  There should be at least 2-4 other beers to sample there too.
