(Sorry this is so long!!)
Kind of a random question but I'm curious....do you and DH/DW kiss each other hello/goodbye and/or say "I love you" when you leave each other?
I ask because I come from a family thats very affectionate-my parents and I always kiss and hug hello/goodbye when we see each other. Even aunts, uncles, cousins-same thing. My parents and I always say "I love you" to each other when we leave each other. DH's family is the total opposite-no kiss/hugs, no "I love you" ever....I think I've maybe hugged his parents a handful of times since we met (almost 7yrs ago) and I don't think they've ever said "I love you" to me or to DH in front of me.
It kind of makes it hard b/c when DH comes home I want a kiss hello and when we part ways for the day I want a kiss goodbye and an "I love you". He just doesn't "get it". If I'm home and he leaves-he barely even says goodbye let alone give a kiss/hug or I Love you. If he's home and I'm leaving, I'll go out of my way to give him a kiss (which he usually turns to give it on his cheek) and say I love you to him. I've brought it up to him before but he doesn't see the big deal....I guess after growing up in a family like that I should expect that. Just curious what other people's situations are like!
Re: XP-You and your DH/DW
DH - we always kiss goodbye and say 'I love you'.
My family hugs, but I don't always hug my brother. We're close, but not really "touchy".
DH's family hugs, and his sisters do the cheek kiss thing, which I think is obnoxious. It's fake, and germy. Also, I hate that the one who has kids is teaching them to do it too. I love my nephews, but I don't need them to lick the side of my face, thanks.

my family is pretty affectionate... lots of hugs always. and definitely a kiss hello and goodbye. we even do fake kisses on the phone (which I find endearing, and i love that it seems like our family is the only one that does this)
DH's family is a little affectionate... not big on i love yous or kisses, but hugs are common.
In our house, kisses goodbye in the morning are common if I am awake, but if I am sleeping, DH just leaves... If im up first, is the same - unless one of us is going on a biz trip, then we wake the other one.
nighttime is a mandatory "always kiss me good night" with an i love you. I try to ask DH to be a bit more spontaneous wiht saying i love you though, because Id like to hear it out of his mouth first, instead of me always saying it first.... but well, that probably an insecurity of mine...
My family- growing up I was huggy with my parents, but not my siblings. Now as adults, my siblings and I hug hello and goodbye, and say I love you when we hang up the phone, etc.
DH- we always kiss goodnight, and always kiss goodbye/hello and say I love you. I think as I've gotten older it just got more important.
Yep, I would say 98% of the time we do. I think that I started it with DH. My family is not terribly affectionate and I don't think DH was very affectionate before me either (something to do with being a cop for years, blah, blah, blah), but I need it.
Plus, in his field, I get nervous that something could happen while he is at Court or visiting an inmate/client, so I make sure to tell him I love him and kiss goodbye.
I think our families are pretty evenly affectionate. Whenever we leave his parents house we always hug and kiss his parents/siblings goodbye. When we leave my parents house we don't usually hug and kiss my mom or stepdad, but we always hug and kiss my young sisters and my father though. Acutally now I kinda feel bad because I think I tell my dad I love him a lot more than I tell my mom. My mom is like my best friend too, I guess I need to start telling her I love you more and not take it for granted!
As for us, we most of the time give a kiss goodbye and always an I love you. My husband gets ready for work when I go to bed, so he tucks me in every night, gives me kisses and an I love you. When we get off the phone with each other it always ends in an I love you, sometimes I say it first, sometimes my husband does, so it is pretty even.
K is always still in bed when I leave for work, but I kiss her forehead and tell her to have a good day. We say "I love you" at least once a day. And we greet each other with a kiss when we get home. Her family is fairly affectionate, mine, not at all.
