Our old car is quickly nearing the end of its life. The heat is gone so there is no way to defrost the windows in the morning. DH has been taking the good car most of this week. I don't mind b/c my commute is only a few miles and I leave for work much later than him (after the sun has come up and defrosted the windows). Well he was rushing this morning and took the good car-and the keys to old car. I cannot find my set of keys. My co-worker passes the house on her way to work but she's (always) running late so she probably can't get me until 10:30.
We both need to get our sh!t together and organize our lives. I'm not surprised that we (I) lost the keys. It's pretty typical for us.
And also, join me as I shake my fist at the Cash for Clunkers program. This car got 2 MPG over the limit. Never mind that it's 15 years old, the warning lights are always on b/c the sensors are fried (thank god we don't have e-check anymore b/c that's an automatic fail), the driver's side window won't go down, the a/c is also broken, blah-blah-blah.
Oh, and I found a new little cig burn in the new car. I thought we agreed that someone would not smoke in the new car.
Re: I am so frustrated!
I feel your pain about Cash for Clunkers, but that's a long story...
I've been focusing on getting us more organized and I've found it really helpful to subscribe to a few blogs on the topic. It keeps it in the front of my thoughts as I'm doing things around the house.
Also, FlyLady has this thing that she calls a 'launchpad' where you put all the stuff you need to leave in the morning on it the night before. I kinda implemented that and on the days I actually do it, it's very effective.
Ah yes, Flylady. I signed up. I haven't opened one of her emails for about a month. I have failed.
In all seriousness, I think it's time to sit dh down and tell him that we BOTH need to work on cleaning up our lives. We're both messy, disorganized people. I think it's a good thing we are only responsible for dogs, not kids!
I did the same thing. I'm super organized when it comes to certain things, but our house is a mess of clutter. I've mostly been able to relegate it to one kitchen counter, but it's starting to creep again.

I have a key bowl
Everyone in my family has ADD or ADHD, including me. I used to be on medication & see a therapist/coach. I think it's time to go back.
I've been trying FlyLady's system too - and I haven't admitted failure, I have just realized I need to take it at my own pace and get one thing down at a time before I go to the next step. Let's just say her 30 day program has been more like 3 months on step one for me.
I always put my keys back into my purse immediately after I walk in the front door. End.of.story. H is a clutterbug, so I'm afraid if I actually put them down, he'll put something on top of them and then I'll just be frantic trying to find them. I don't do frantic well.
I think organization works best when it flows with what you already do naturally. Rather than have a key bowl in a special spot, maybe look at where you already drop stuff when you come in the door and move the key bowl there. You can always put it in a more visually appealing location when company is over. Put it where it will work for you b/c you're already standing there dropping stuff. Do you hang your coat up when you come in? You could add some extra hooks to your coat rack or to the back of the closet door to put your keys on.
