Girl, I feel your pain. Being helpless was one of my biggest peeves too when I was stuck on the couch last year. I can't offer much except for sympathy.
Showering was the one thing I insisted on doing myself. I had to have help getting in and out, but once I was there it was all me. My shower was pretty much the only thing that kept me going.
Someone (I think my mom) got a cover for my cast. It was a heavy plastic bag with a plastic hoop on top that sealed with a rubber piece around the top of the cast. I think it cost around $20. It was totally worth it. I think they found it at Walgreens.
Also they got me a removable shower head and my in-laws had a shower stool that they loaned me.
It seems like a lot of stuff for taking a shower, but it was so worth it. And it sounds like you have a long recovery ahead so I thought I'd share what I did.
If I was near you I'd come decorate your crutches for you.
Big hugs
Re: *Squesh*
Oooo I want my crutches decorated!!
Thanks baby girl for the advice. Showers are out b.c I can not put any weight on this ankle for 2 - 3 months so I can only take baths. But I think that once I have the surgery I am going to be able to do that myself. I think I can do it now but I am so afraid of tripping and putting weight on this ankle and making it worse. We have made some provisions to the bath though, I have a little stool I put in the tub that I am able to lay back on. Slowly but surely we are figuring this thing out!
BTW they showed this 40 lbs bunny from the UK on a morning show today. I told DH about this girl on the Nest that tells funny stories about her bunnies Milton and Brunswick. I looked at him as serious as I could - "Yes I know her bunnies names".
Yeah, we have a combo bath/shower. I couldn't have done it in a small shower either. I couldn't put weight on my ankle either. That's why the stool and removable shower head.
I'm sure you'll find a routine and then it will be strange to go back to the old way. The first day I stood up in the shower I kept thinking I was doing something wrong.
LOL about the bunnies. They've been camera shy lately. I need to try to catch them doing something cute.
UGH thats like maybe the one thing I dont like about the house - the small shower. If it were a combo like yours I could totally do it. I am so ready for normal to get back. It has been a long week.
TGIF! Hopefully your weeks will get easier & these next few months will fly by. You'll be up-n-at-em before you know it!
I realized I might have been giving some unsolicited advice. I'm sorry.
The small shower would bother me too. In college I had a small shower and I complained all the time.
