T&P for our dog please!

Miller is severely dehydrated, has a fever, and elevated pancreas enzymes.  She's at the vet for the rest of the day with an IV and catheter while they rehydrate her.  We're not continuing her current UTI meds.  We're picking her up at 5:30 and will put her on a bland diet for awhile.

DH and I are pretty mad at our vet for not warning us about what side effects to look for and what to do if we notice them.  I found out by Googling the drug she's on (Primor).

On the good side, Miller LOVES bland diets of chicken and rice.  She had a bad bought of diarrhea (it never ends with this dog) and I boiled chicken and rice for her for a week.  She was in heaven because she was eating "people food" that I prepared specially for her.  I've got chicken thawing in the fridge right now for tonight.

  • T*P's!!!

Ladmo had elevated pancreas enzymes the first time we took him in to be neutered it was caused by dehydration (he couldnt have water after 10pm the night before surgery) They did the IV thing for a day and he was good to go. I hope the other issues clear up as well! Poor little pooch

That gives me hope that everything will be better after today.  Miller usually bounces back quickly, and even when her glucose levels are off she doesn't act any differently.  Apparently the fever is also from the deyhdration, so that should go down.

  • Poor Miller!  I hope she's doing better soon, and that the vet can get her medical needs under control.  Bella doesn't have diabetes, but she gets UTIs constantly, ear infections all the time, and has sensitive stomach/allergy issues that usually result in her breaking out in rashes and chewing on her paws until they swell.  It's hard having a dog/pet with health issues, but I hope she's back to her usual self soon!

It must be a lab thing to constantly get UTIs.  Miller gets around 3-4 a year.  She's always been on fine on antibiotics, so I'm not sure why they gave her sulfa drugs this time.  She literally is always fine within a day of antibiotics.  The vet has written a note on the file to never give our dog Primor again.

I'm glad they're not going to give her Primor again!  That's a relief.  They usually give Bella antibiotics too, and that works well for her.  Last time we thought she had a UTI it turned out she has kidney or bladder stones...so I hope they go away on their own Huh?
