Going off of YAZ and getting on Alesse
After several months, okay maybe even over 2 years of horrible mood swings, low key drive and even worse migraines I am going off of YAZ. The final straw was my "monthly migraines" made me throw up last week!! I just talked to my doctor and she is putting me on Alesse. I'll be off for several weeks until I get my period and then the plan is to start that.
What are other people's experiences with this? I'm also curious how people's bodies reacted during the time in between. I'm not looking forward to using condoms in the in between but I couldn't take the YAZ anymore. I am really hoping this bc is better!
Re: Going off of YAZ and getting on Alesse
I was on Yaz for a year and I was completely miserable.
I have never been a person to experience huge side effects from BCP. I was on OTC-lo for 4 years and switched only bc in the last few months I was spotting a lot in between periods.
Yaz made me a whole different person.... horrible mood swings and very bad headaches. When I stopped taking it I felt like a new person. I went off of BC for 2 months and gladly used condoms for the break.
I'm on NuvaRing now.
i was on alesse for a couple yrs but the dr switched me to tricyclin lo because i started to get breakthrough bleeding on alesse.
was there a reason you had to take a break between switching bcp? my dr said after my last pack of alesse, i could start tricyclin lo.
I had what I think was an allergic reaction to Alesse. I started having a lot of anxiety, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and it got so debilitating to my daily life that I quit mid-pack and had panic attacks that night for the first time in my life. It took me about a month/month and a half before I felt healthy again.
However, that's not to say you will have the same reaction. There are people on Alesse who love it. Just make sure that if your body gives you warning signs you don't ignore them like I did. I kept thinking "I'll give it three months to see if it goes away." That was a bad idea.
Good luck!
Ashley
I loved Alesse!
I gained a bit of weight when I went on it, but I think that probably had more to do with being an incredibly frustrated college freshman than the pills.
Hmm... Come to think of it, I should ask my current doctor if I could go back on Alesse.
I too had cyclical migraines on YAZ. Plus, it's been almost a year off it (and other bc pills), and my cycle is STILL messed up. Doctor doesn't seem to think its a big deal, but man is it annoying!
Good luck!
When I got off BC my periods become a little screwy but nothing too crazy. It can take me a few months to get on my own regular cycle again.
I have never been on YAZ. A few years ago my doctor recommended it but at the time it was going to be 50$ a month with my insurance. Instead I went on tricyclin. I had break through bleeding and did not like how my periods were (had to describe, my body just felt weird and not right). Then I went on some generic (don't remember at all what it was). That was ok no break through bleeding.
After being on BC for about a year, I went off BC for a year (lost health insurance). I am now on Loestrin 24 FE. I have been on it for 5 months and love it. No break through bleeding, shorter periods No major mood swings. I still get head aches but I have not been getting migraines.
I have never taken Alesse. I hope this helps a little.
