Gift Ideas
Hello everyone! I know I haven't posted too much lately but I need a little help from you wonderful ladies. On Sunday I will be going to a birthday party for a two year old boy and I am at an absolute loss as to what to get him. This is the son of one of my best friends and I consider him my nephew but I just have no experience buying gifts for little kids. Any help that you ladies can provide would be much appreciated. I should also mention, as terrible as this may sound, I'm really hoping to not spend more than $20.

One year I bought one of my nephews a 1$ inflatable alligator (life-sized and from Dollar Tree) along with other non-cheapo items. That was his favorite gift out of everything he received--even better then the expensive stuff his parents bought. I don't know what's available now or anything specific to recommend. What I am saying, though, is the simpler it is, the better.

PS...you should try to find a 1$ life-sized alligator.
I am always a fan of giving them books when they're that little. Check out things like The Giving Tree, I'll Love You Forever, any book by Graeme Base knocks my socks off with the great artwork in it especially Animalia. I give a lot of copies of the Velveteen Rabbit because that was one of my favorites when I was little.
I hope I don't get flamed for this, but I like to get very small kids like this gift cards. Yes, it's really for the parents, but kids are expensive. The kid is probably still in diapers and those aren't cheap! The 2 year old isn't going to remember any part of his birthday party, much less what he gets as gifts and from who!
For DH's nephew's 2nd bday, we got "him" a gift card to Target.

I had the same question a few months ago with my nephew for Christmas. I don't remember if I posted it here or elsewhere, but several day care workers recommended the LeapFrog caterpillar. It's available for about $20 and I personally picked one up at Toys R Us.

It's essentially a caterpillar on a pull string, and each of the "feet" are buttons for letters of the alphabet. Depending on which setting you put the caterpillar on, it will either say the letter, when the feet are pushed, or the letter sound ("guh" for G, "mmmmm" for M, etc.). Also plays music.
My nephew apparently really enjoys it.
