You had to use insulin, right? When did you find out that you had to go on it? How often do you have to take insulin (once a day? at each meal?)?

I'm being extremely careful with my sugars - everything is weighed/measured, so I'm positive my serving sizes are correct - and my numbers are still high, so I'm starting to think insulin will be necessary. I've only been tracking it for a week, but still...

Australia uses a different scale than the USA (normal here is 3.5 - 6.7, and I don't know how to convert that to the American scale) so this won't really translate, but it's consistently around 6.6 - 6.8, waaaaay up at the high end of normal - I was told if this happens then insulin will probably be needed. The only time it's lower is first thing in the morning before I eat, when it's around 5.5.

I see my physician in a week, so naturally it will be discussed then, I'm just trying to get a rough sense of timing - did your doctor give you longer than 2 weeks to try to control things with diet?

    I had 10 days just doing diet & exercise and they decided to start insulin.  This was because my fasting number was consistently too high despite my after meal numbers being withinthe target.

    I was placed on slow acting insulin, called Humulin, 6 units in the morning and 6 units before bed.  At 34 weeks I increased to 8 units each time as my fasting numbers and some post meal numbers crept up.

    Some docs do insulin (fast acting) before each meal, if the post meal numbers are the high ones.  If you do have to do it, I recommend asking for the injection pen...super easy and with the thinner needles, you barely feel it.

    BTW, I know your body aches but are you exercising at all?  Even marching in place for 10 minutes after you eat can bring down your post-meal number to within range.  Walking is good too, but sometimes I'd just march in place and swing my arms a bit...did the trick.

    Also, check out the High Risk board on The Bump...there are some other gals on there who are carrying twins and have GD too.

    I am exercising a bit - just walking, nothing strenuous - but not usually right after a meal. I'll give marching in place a try - I hadn't thought of that!

    Do it right after eating...nothing major, just a bit to get your heartrate up and blood going....ten minutes...makes a difference!
