@#$%& Florida - warning a Dem is ranting
Last night I get a ballot in the mail. I didn't want to vote by mail but I guess since I voted by mail for primaries, I will get a ballot by mail forever. So I am reading through the ballot and I come across this gem:
Constitutional Amendment No. 2
"In as much as marriage is the legal union of only one man and one woman as husband and wife, no other legal union that is treated as marriage or the substantial equivalent thereof shall be valid or recognized."
DH stops me in the middle of my "why are people so close minded?" rant to say - "people have a right to put things on the ballot just like we have a right to vote no." Takes the wind right out of my sail. After thinking about it for awhile, this is what I was really mad about - I knew nothing about this - it completely blind sided me; our local media isn't covering this. That's my new frustration.
Despite my many deadlines for work; I'll be creating an email to send to the majority of my address book.

It's actually becoming a new tactic for the radical conservative crowd. They realize that they'll come across vast competition if they bring it up to the media, so they keep everything quiet to try and capitalize on people's inherent prejudices.
Smart strategy (tactic?), but I personally find it deplorable. If you're going to put something on the ballot, people should at least be able to talk about it, to think about it, before their asked to vote on it. If the first time someone sees an issue is on the ballot, we have a problem.
Yup, I hadn't heard a PEEP about this being on the ballot until a few weeks ago. Actually, it was when Shoshie I believe, posted here asking "What props or amendments are on your ballots this year?" and since I hadn't heard of ONE, I ran off to look and discovered the marriage one.
My blood boiled. The media is completely ignoring this. Completely. It should be discussed. If people want to be close-minded and vote for the thing, fine. But to have no discourse? No discussion on it? It's bothersome.
