More wall advice...help me!

Yes, the PB keys are still up but this is what I bought to replace them ...WDYT?

Will this work? I feel decorating dumb sometimes...

Also, should I center it over the bookshelf or a little to the right?

ETA: Keys are definitely coming down...I'm thinking it will be too busy with the painting so I'm leaning toward just leaving that spot empty...

And picture is sitting on top of the bookshelf just to show you what it is....it's not hung there at all.

Re: More wall advice...help me!

  • I like it a lot!!

If it were me, I'd probably frame it to give it even more 'strength' on the wall.  I would also probably move that basket next to the tree, and have the table centered under the tv.  I think a higher table would also work well under your tv.  I would center the artwork over the the book shelf.

Where did you find the art?  DH and I have been looking for stuff for our place too.

    Very nice!

  • Please don't think I hate it....but if it were my house, I'd center the tv and the table under the tv, move the bookshelf to another wall and hang that picture you have set on top of the bookshelf to that adjoining wall you've got to the right there.

Do you have a front entryway?  I'd put those keys in the entryway or a hallway.

I just think the wall looks very busy with all those things on that one little wall.  Then again, I'm all about simple (less clutter = less dust to clean!)

that's my opinion! good luck, I'm no decorator either, I just do what I like very sparingly.

  • the table is centered under the TV...the TV is on a swivel mount so it is positioned at an angle.

So....another option- lose the keys and painting all together?

  • what is on the wall to the right of the tv? the painting might go well there ... but I dont dislike it above the bookshelf either.

  • I think the picture is too big to be over the shelf. If you want the keys there I would lower them and frame them. The TV looks weird when it is angled so I could be the reason it looks awkward.

What ever you put over the shelf should not be any wider than the self.

  • I think the reason it looks a little piecemeal to me is that there are four things of about the same size arranged in a square on the wall. I like Joyco's advice to move the book case if possible. And I would move the keys to an entryway. But I'm the least imaginative decorator ever, so take this with a grain of salt.

I agree. I think the picture is too big for that spot. I would arrange the keys just above the bookshelf and put an empty frame around them. I wouldn't put the keys all in a row, i would stagger them in some way.  Does that make sense?

    This word by word.

Are you open to changing your entertainment center? I would go for a wider and taller piece to anchor the wall.  As far as a the shelves, it looks kind of bare,  adding some books all covered with a red paper, and few heavier decorative pieces, couple of decorative baskets to stow blanket or magazines can make it look more present and purposed.

The tree in the corner, is it live? if not I would lose that, too.

  • i actually think the tv should be in the corner, diagonal. it looks like it's facing walking space instead of facing your seating. then you could center the bkshlf or large picture on that wall.

you should post on the decorating board. those ladies can even make pictures of their ideas. pretty darn impressive.

  • Get a taller, more substantial bookshelf to balance the space and forget the art (it competes w/ the TV.)  And lose the Christmas tree.

Is the little coffee table pushed up against the wall under the tv what you're using for a media cabinet?  It's disproportionate.  If budget permits, I'd also look into getting a proper, proportional media cabinet.  Places like World Market, Home Decorators, even the Wal-Mart Canopy line, among others have nice media cabinets at reasonable prices.
