BR: Bath Tub

Aloha Mama's,

So Ashton is totally all about sitting up in his whale bath tub, so today I bought him this.  What are you ladies using once baby starts to sit up?  I've heard of those bath seats but I have also heard lots of negative things about how unsafe they are.  If you do use an infant bath seat, are the negative comments due to parents error?

TIA!

Re: BR: Bath Tub

  • We had the whale tub, too. When Marino was 9 months old we started bathing him in the regular tub. We bought one of those non-slip mats and a faucet cover (initially we only used a small amount of water but we've gradually increased...now he likes to pretend he's swimming in the tub). He LOVES being in the big tub...much better splashing and kicking opportunities! Bathtime is his favorite. Sometimes he'll ask to take a bath hours before its bathtime "baf? k?" (translation "bath, ok?").
  • Jaylee used the ducky tub from about 5 1/2 months till last week.. For some reason when we tried to put her in it recently she screamed bloodly murder. So how we have her in the tub with very little water, anon-slip math and the faucet cover. She LOVES bathtime now, I think it has to do with not being so confiend. She is all about having tons of space.. I think Ashton will love the tub...
  • We used the Euro bathtub until he was 15 months, it has two ends...one end to use when they are infants and the other end when they can sit up by themselves (there's a bump that is between their legs so they can't slip).

While we were in Hawaii for the holidays, SP just showered with Dan and LOVED it (the guest bath at my FIL's house only has a shower).  We bought a non-slip mat to use with some of his toys on it and he literally never wanted to come out.

We put him in the big tub when we got home last month.  We still use the non-slip mat, he sits on it now although he still likes to walk around on it so we have to be really careful he doesn't slip on the non-mat parts of the tub.

I can't believe that he's in the big tub.  My baby is now my little man.  Sigh.

  • We use the Euro tub, too.
  • We have just stuck her in the bath tub since she was about 8 months. The water is filled up right about to her waist now (10 1/2 mos) and we stick toys in there for her to play with. She likes it. Only bad thing is that at some point during bath time she wants to stand up, and I end up having to sit on the edge of the tub (feet inside tub) so she can stand up on my legs while I hold on to her. I know that girl understands what sit down means, but she does whatever she wants regardless! I happen to like sink baths the best though. We don't do those often enough.
  • we use the eurobath too

So did you just sit him on the bottom of the shower with toys?  Intriguing idea.  I have never showered with a LO (I nannied my newphew from 6 weeks until 2.5 years and always just bathed him in the big tub with a non-slip mat, etc.)

  • Brooke has been all about sitting up in the whale tub, too. . . you can take out that butt part in the whale tub so they can sit up completely. You may have to wash the bottom of the tub as it gets naaaaasty. We tried it once or twice, but she was slippin' and slidin' all over the place.

I ended up putting the butt thing back in. :p

I bought the duck tub from Target a few days ago... put her in it and she freaked out. She was terrified of that damn duck! Vance and I were laughing so hard bc. it was so cute. Anyway, the duck tub is back in it's box.

I may buy a non-slip mat next and see how that goes...

Sorry Lori, haven't been on it a while.  SP would step in the shower himself (it was one of those double-wide showers) and his bath mat was right there at the entrance of the shower.  He sat only sometimes, he liked mostly to stand up and walk around on his mat.  We know many friends and family that shower with their LOs, for me and Dan, it's a 2-person operation.  Dan does the showering w/SP and he calls when SP is done, I'll go get him to do the drying and such.

He still likes to walk around in the bathtub at home so we have to be really careful but he LOVES it :)
