Thank you all so much for the kind words. It really means a lot to me.
DH and I are doing ok. Being at work today is a good distraction. I'm able to look at pictures of Miller without crying, so hopefully I'm slowly beginning to heal.
We will probably be those crazy people who get a puppy in the near future. Our house is just too quiet.
Re: Thank you.
Yes, I noticed the quietness-as I'm home a lot more than he is... then, it's the little things... dog coupons, bandanas, commercials, pictures... We have a little stuffed basset that's made it's home in our living room right now... One of the kids brought over a dog book.
We are not ready for a new dog---I think we're waiting at least a year. It's too much at this point. My sister said she wished they would have waited longer. I think you'll know when you're ready.
I've been thinking about you and DH and how you were doing!
How old was Miller?
Miller was only 6. Both vets (our usual and the emergency vet) told us that what happened to her is not common. Both have been out of vet school for 20+ years and have only had a few dogs die from this sudden onset of pancreatitis (it has a specific name but I can't remember what it is).
However, our regular vet told me that this is the 2nd time in 2 weeks that a diabetic dog who recently switched from Vetsulin to Humulin came in and quickly died from pancreatitis. She said she would start looking into it because once was an anomaly but twice caused her to be concerned.
We immediately put all of Miller's toys, blankets, bed, etc. in a box so we wouldn't have to look at them. We kept a picture on the mantle and so far are doing ok with that.
Our Bella passed away from complications of pancreatitis last december. I am still very upset about it. We also took all of her things immediatly out of site. We still have her picture up, and got her ashes. We keep them on top of the entertainment center. The way our computer is set up , it shows a small slide show in the corner of the home screen. Every once in a while one of her pictures pops up and sometimes I still lose it.
Just wanted to add, we got Riggs and Sawyer about 2 weeks after she passed. We just couldnt deal with the house feeling so empty. It really helped alot. Infact, we call our boys "little sunshines". We feel they brought the sunshine back into our house and made us smile again.
My thoughts are still with you and your DH. Please feel free to vent and let it out as much as you need to .
More big hugs to you sweetie. It takes a long time. And I don't blame you one bit for wanting to get a new puppy soon. For some it is just the right remedy. I got choked up the other day when we moved and Chopper's ashes were sitting right next to my moms. It's so sad that you had her for such a short amount of time.
