I'm sure you all are off enjoying your weekends! I was ready to enjoy my Sunday off but when I got home, I found out Dh is sick with some kind of stomach thing and has been throwing up all afternoon.. nice. And I even had the opportunity to work tomorrow but I asked another manager if she wanted to do it since she needs more hours than me. I feel kind of bad that I just want to stay far away from him but I definitely don't want a stomach virus!
So, to keep from getting sick when he's sick, I normally:
1. Sleep in another room.
2. Use a separate hand towel in the bathroom.
3. Spray disinfectant spray everywhere!
4. Wipe down every doorknob/remote/light switch I can find with disinfectant
5. Take vitamin C.
6. Wash all blankets/sheets that he's touched.
7. If it's a tolerable temp, I open windows to air the place out.
(I even do these things when I'm sick to keep him from catching whatever I have..)
So, do any of you have any other tips??
Re: What do you do to avoid getting sick when DH is?
This.
My DH is sick right now too (probably not the stomach bug, but an awful head cold). He's so over dramatic about it too. Huge coughs and loud snorts of stuffiness. I like taking care of him though when he's sick and thankfully he doesn't get sick very often.
I don't really do much in terms of de-germanizing the house. If he had something more serious (ie. the flu) than I probably would take all of those precautions.
I've been pretty fortunate too because when he gets sick, it doesn't get me sick *knocks on wood*. There's was even a time in college where 3 out of the 6 roommates (including the girl I shared a room with) caught an AWFUL stomach bug and I never caught anything. It definitely helped that another roommate blanketed both of our beds in Lysol and washed all of the sheets and towels.
Hope your DH feels better!
DH won't kiss me on the mouth when he is sick haha! Apparently that will keep me from getting it, says the man who works in a hospital. We always have a good laugh about that.
Anyway, knock on wood, we haven't usually gotten stuff from each other so we don't do anything different except a few extra vitamins.
We still sleep together,?but no sharing towels, toothpaste, any food-related items
He stays away from the food (except stuff that I wouldn't eat anyway), and definitely no kissing. Fortunately we don't share computers much, and I usually have him stay away from the remote.
And we also try to get extra sleep. I take all sorts of vitamins regularly, but I don't take more if he's sick. Usually I can fight colds if I'm getting enough sleep, drinking a lot, eating well, and exercising. And washing my hands obsessively. (knock on wood) we've been fairly healthy since moving in together- we each had a cold that the other never caught, but I think only one cold is pretty good.
