Update to review

I had my review. It went very well (which I wasn't really concerned about - I know they're pleased with my performance). The raise was higher than I expected from them . . . but not as much as I wanted. The raise is definitely decent and apparently more than anyone else received this year, but I did mention that according to my salary research, I should be making closer to $XX,XXX, especially considering the additional responbilities I'd taken on in the past year.

I did it in the most professional way possible, but I almost didn't bring it up because the raise was more than I expected from my company. But then  reminded myself that's not personal, it's business. I don't think it will result in anything now, but if I did say that I wanted to know how I could grown within the company (AKA make more money) so they can take that under consideration for the future. Which may not be very long. Hopefully we'll find jobs up north soon, but in the mean time, it is good to be making some more moolah.

I haven't decided if this means I'll leave NYC next month to job search. I'll have to discuss with J.

Thanks for the luck, ladies!

Re: Update to review

  • Well that is good news. I understand needing more for your responsabilities than you got but sounds like this will make it easier for you to manage while still looking for another job.

    Congrats to you!

  • Thats awesome that you got a bigger raise then you expected.

Now that they have the bug intheir ear that you want to advance, and that you KNOW you should be making more for what you do there, maybe before job searching sit down with the head honcho and tell them, This is what I want $$ wise, I will take on X other tasks...OR I leave. They may shock you and come thru....it would be beneficial to them to give you more money then to bring in a couple other people to fulfill all the duties you do.

  • Congrats on the raise even if it wasn't as much as you deserved.  Good luck on your job search too, hope you find a place that appreciates your skills to the fullest!

  • I'm glad they gave you something, but I'm sorry it wasn't enough! It almost makes things harder, being in limbo land. . . But congrats on a good review!
  • It sounds like mostly good news, so yay for that! You still have some decisions to make, but for today, it was a good day. GL on thinking through your next options.
  • Glad to hear you had a good review and got a larger raise than you thought they'd offer!  GL thinking through your options.  If you opt to pursue this further, I like Agent's suggestion of how to bring up more money (or other compensation) to them.

  • Wow... that's good!  But glad to hear you aren't just stopping there...
  • Woohoo!! Glad it went well and you got a higher raise than expected even though it didn't meet what you were looking for. Major props on asking how to grow within the company. Hopefully a promotion is in your near future.

Exactly. Thanks, ladies! I think we're going to go out to eat to celebrate a little. Woohoo!

  • At least you know that they are not completely clueless about your worth.  That is a good thing.

I think now that you've said your piece, you just have to carry off one amazing thing (unravel a nest, beat a deadline) and then remind them again how lucky they are to have you.
