Lose your home, lose your vote rumor
It's going around Minnesota now, too. Oy.
Re: Lose your home, lose your vote rumor
maryland's board of elections site actually has a rumor alert box to set the record straight for folks about the foreclosure nonsense and the whole you-can't-vote-wearing-candidate-paraphernalia crap -- it's NOT state law here.
i'm hoping more states do this.
caden-
The county where they say it's going to happen is a really Republican county, too. It's wackadoodle Michelle Bachmann's district. The county has a high foreclosure rate, but not as high as other areas in the twin cities. I'm perplexed.
Yup that sounds exactly like our rumor. Did they fabricate Bachmann quotes too or is this based on some secret GOP memo type of thing?
Oh and is MN also experiencing massive voter fraud courtesy of Acorn?
I don't think we have much voter fraud here... if there is going to be, they wouldn't really know about it yet because we allow day-of registration.
Here's the e-mail I got (I do not live in this county):
Pollworkers for Democracy
Underhanded tactics are being used to suppress voters. Protect every vote in Anoka County on Election Day.
Imagine being told you've lost the right to vote because the bank
foreclosed on your home.
As sickening as that sounds, it's exactly what's being planned in some counties in Michigan and Ohio ? and those are just the places we've heard about so far. Here's the strategy, according to the Michigan Messenger:
"State election rules allow parties to assign election challengers to
polls to monitor the election. In addition to observing the poll
workers, these volunteers can challenge the eligibility of any voter
provided they 'have a good reason to believe' that the person is not
eligible to vote. One allowable reason is that the person is not a
'true resident of the city or township.'"
No, you're not reading this wrong. Some operatives are saying that
once you lose your home, you'll also lose your vote.
The good news is that you can fight back in Anoka County. How? By
becoming a pollworker.
This year, CREDO Action is proud to sponsor the "Pollworkers for
Democracy" project ? a nonpartisan effort to get more people involved in protecting our elections from despicable tactics like these. We'll provide you with information to supplement your pollworker training, as well as a system to report and track any problems on and before Election Day.
Anoka County still needs pollworkers for the November 4th general
election. By signing up as a pollworker, you can support our
democratic system...and get paid!
Click here to sign up to become a pollworker in Anoka County.
The fairness of this year's election is in your hands, and the best
place to protect voters is right inside the polling place.
Thank you for all your work to safeguard our democracy.

It's too bad they didn't mention the Ohio part has already been retracted by the Michigan Messenger and they're about to be sued for the Michigan part. ; )
I just read it again and I think they're just using that hoax story as a way to get more poll workers, which I understand but it wouldn't affect challenges. I'm not sure what MN polls are like, but I'm a poll worker (we call them election inspectors in MI) and we don't really have anything to do with poll challengers, except to keep them in their certain area. It's not like if a challenger challenged a voter we would be able to talk them out of it. In MI a challenge just results in us calling the clerk's office and the gov't comes to deal with it.
