Am I overly sensitive?

My job requires our child support officers to  bring me orders to sign after conferences every week, so Monday and Tuesdays I have them trickling in and out of my office constantly, regardless of whether they are sick or not.  One guy in particular comes in, gives me the file, grabs a tissue from my box (no asking) and then proceeds to blow his nose just a couple feet away from me. I find this incredibly gross and it pisses me off. He insists he's not sick, but still, isn't it a bit rude to blow your nose right in front of someone, or is it just me?

Note: he once walked in to my office while I was blowing my nose, so I promptly stopped, and he teased me for being a weak nose blower! Huh?

We have so much time, and so little to do! Strike that, reverse it.

Re: Am I overly sensitive?

  • yeah I would be grossed out too... at a minimum I turn around and blow my nose if there is anyone in the room, even DH.
  • I think to some people, it's just not as big of an issue as it is to others. I'm one that finds it incredibly disgusting and rude to blow your nose in front of other people (like Hawki said, at least turn around). H, on the other hand, will blow his nose at dinner in a restaurant. ::vom::
  • I think it's gross but wouldn't be offended by it. I would rather have someone blow their nose than sit and sniffle or have snot come out.
  • But it would be so easy for him to step a couple feet into the hallway, or even better, 15 feet into the men's room.  His nose isn't actively running at the moment he's in my office, he just likes the nice, soft tissues I bring from home.

  • HIDE YOUR TISSUES.

    :)

I'd be a little grossed out, but nose blowing isn't one of MANY annoyances in life. I have many others. Trust.

Ha, it's not usually on my list either. I think I am being overly sensitive because I already find this particular person annoying. But in my office of 30+ people, he is the only one who takes my tissue, uses them right in front of me, and randomly walks into my office to use my window to spy on the parking lot. He's one of those "my sh!t don't stink" guys who is really just a complete idiot.

  • I think this man has a partcularly strange (Freudian?) obsession with noses.  He fancies himself a strong nose-blower and is trying to show off for you.  Criticizing your nose-blowing is a part of this.
