Good morning ladies! I also posted this on the Money Matters board, but perhaps one of you lovely ladies can help!
DH and I were married last Oct and I recently went to the SSA to get my name changed on my social security card. However, we had not filed our taxes at the point that I changed my name. Now, we are trying to e-file and it keeps rejecting our return saying the SSN doesn't match info on file. I have recieved my new SS card w/ new name on it, and the tax prep software says to use the name on your SS card. However, the name on my W2s is my maiden name. I'm wondering if this is where the snag is?
Does anyone know what I should do here to get the efile accepted? Do I need to have my employers generate new W2s with my married name on them?
TIA!
Re: Happy Monday! Here's a Tax ? for ya!
which software are you using?
call the IRS and see what they say. you might be stuck paper filing.
why haven't your W2s changed to your married name yet? that's quite possibly the trigger. you can't use 2 names unless you have legal reasoning for an alias (previous name in this case).
We're using the H&Rblock software. My W2s were issued before I got the new SS card, so I had not notified my employer of the name change... plus I have one former employer in there plus the current employer.
UGH men should have to change their names!!!!
I used my old name (we were married in late November) and I didn't get my new SSID card until a week before filing out taxes.
I received my tax refund for Federal, no problem. But it has been a while for the State...so I'm not sure if the name change is what is delaying everything...I hope not.
Let me know if you found anything else out.
