NER: H's very own E08
so H started taking part in a weekly poker game recently, which has brought together a slew of peeps he hadn't known before. last night, they got to talkin politics with a super diverse crew.
dudes who work on The Hill, lawyers, journalists, a few repairmen, black, white, turkish, mexican, dems, republicans and even a token libertarian. 
they sparred over palin, obama and the iraq war, but low and behold the financial bailout was their unity horse: everyone was against it.
anyhow, H was gushing about how cool it was to have intelligent political debate with a wide range of opinions -- over cards and beer of course. most importantly, now he *gets* my E08 addiction. finally!

i'll have to get the nitty gritty from him later, but in a nutshell, many of the conservatives thought palin was "a brilliant pick" and were angry that people were questioning her experience in light of obama's lack thereof... or something to that effect.
oh and one dude actually *praised* bush's presidency and said he'd vote for him again if he could. now that's something i haven't seen on E08, like, ever.

My DH had a similar experience as some guy's outing he had and the only Palin comments he heard were, "she's hot." One of them had a picture of her as the wallpaper on his cell phone. My DH was like
Oh dear!
